Women’s Hoops Hits the Road for a Pair in Missouri

EMU to tangle with UMKC, Dec. 1, and Missouri State, Dec. 3

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team hits the road for a two-game road swing through the state of Missouri. The Eagles tangle first with the Kangaroos of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Swinney Recreation Center. EMU then makes the 177 mile trek to Springfield, Mo. to take on the Missouri State University Bears Friday, Dec. 3, at JQH Arena. Tip off for both contests is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
The trip to the Show Me State will be the first for the Green and White since the 2004-05 campaign, when the Eagles won the State Farm Tiger Classic hosted by the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., Dec. 3-4.
CATCHING THE EAGLES IN MISSOURI: Neither WEMU or Eagle All-Access will be making the trip to Missouri to broadcast the games against UMKC, Dec. 1, or Missouri State, Dec. 3. Fans wanting to follow the Eagles can find live stats and links to the home team's radio broadcasts at umkckangaroos.com and missouristatebears.com.
A SPOTLIGHT ON EMU'S HISTORY VERSUS UMKC: The schools are meeting for the second time with EMU holding the 1-0 edge in the series. The only other meeting was an opening round contest at the State Farm Tiger Classic hosted by the University of Missouri, Dec. 3, 2004, in Columbia, Mo.
Kristen Kilgore poured in 19 points to lead Eastern Michigan to a 69-44 victory over the Kangaroos. The Eagles raced out to a 35-16 halftime lead and never looked back as it shot 40.3 percent from the floor. In the second half, Eastern led by as many as 28 points as the Green and White coasted to the victory.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE SUMMIT LEAGUE: Eastern Michigan is 10-9 all-time versus the Elmhurst. Ill. based Summit League, having played against five of the 11 member institutions. EMU is 7-7 against Oakland, 1-0 versus IPFW, 1-1 against IUPUI, 1-0 versus UMKC and 0-1 against Western Illinois.
A SPOTLIGHT ON EMU'S HISTORY VERSUS MISSOURI STATE: Eastern Michigan and Missouri State have met just once on the hardwood, with the Eagles recording a 93-81 victory last season at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Nov. 29, 2009.
Tavelyn James ended the game with 31 points, including draining seven three-pointers. Cassie Schrock finished with 26 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals, and Sydney Huntley rounded out a long-bombing backcourt trio as she added 14. The three guards combined to hit 13-of-25 from beyond the arc and scored 71 of Eastern's 93 points. The Lady Bears were led by a stellar all-around performance by guard Casey Garrison, who finished the game with 18 points, nine assists, seven steals and five rebounds.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE: Eastern is 3-11 all time versus the St. Louis, Mo. based Missouri Valley Conference, having played against seven of the 10 member institutions. EMU is 1-0 versus Creighton, 1-0 against Missouri State, 1-1 versus Evansville, 0-1 with Bradley, 0-1 versus Southern Illinois, 0-4 against Illinois State, and 0-5 versus Indiana State.
A RETURN HOME FOR REDDITT: This week will mark a return home for junior forward Paige Redditt who grew up in Kansas City, Mo. and graduated from Belton High School.
CHECKING THE CAREER STATS: With her 13 free throw made versus Cal State Northridge, Nov. 21, senior Cassie Schrock became the EMU career leader in free throws made with 417. Nikki Knapp (2002-06) held the previous standard of 411 makes. The Wadsworth, Ohio native is still 62 attempts shy on Knapps' record of 626 free throws attempted.
Junior Tavelyn James moved into second place all-time with 486 three-pointers attempted, 92 shots short of Kristy Maska's (1997-01) record of 578 in a career. James has also made 150 triples, which is tied with Dru Bishop (1999-03) for the fifth-most three-pointers made in the program history.
THIS DATE IN EMU HISTORY: The game on Dec. 1 will mark the eighth time the Eagles will have played on that date, recording a 2-5 record all-time. The last occurrence came in 2002 when the Green and White lost to Northern Arizona, 89-69, at the Wells Fargo Holiday Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
Eastern Michigan is 7-3 on games played on Dec. 3, last defeating UMKC, 69-44, at the State Farm Tiger Classic in Columbia, Mo.
ALLOWING 50 OR LESS: Eastern Michigan is 84-0 all time when allowing 50 points or less. Since 2003-04 the Green and White have accomplished the feat 39 times with 19 of those coming against Mid-American Conference foes.
A LOOK INSIDE THE SPECIALTY STATS: The Eagles are averaging 28.0 points per game in the paint, 21.0 points off the bench, 24.8 points per game off turnovers, 15.7 second-chance points and 8.7 fast break points per game.
