THE TEAMS: The Eastern Michigan University football team returns to Mid-American Conference play Saturday, Oct. 16, with a road trip to Muncie, Ind. to play the Cardinals of Ball State University. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern Michigan enters the contest with an 0-6 overall record and an 0-3 MAC mark while Ball State is 2-4 overall and 1-1 in league action. Last weekend, Oct. 9,. the Eagles stepped out of league play and dropped a 52-6 decision at Vanderbilt while Ball State lost a 45-16 MAC home game to Western Michigan.

ALL-TIME VS. BALL STATE: Eastern Michigan and Ball State are meeting for the 52nd time and BSU holds a 29-20-2 edge in the series. The visiting Cardinals have a 14-12 edge in the games played in Ypsilanti and a 14-9-2 lead in the contests in Muncie, Ind. The Cardinals have won the last five games in a row. The previous EMU win prior to the five-game streak was a 31-24 home victory, Oct. 9, 2004.
Last year at Rynearson Stadium, Oct. 24, Eastern jumped out to a 27-13 lead heading into the third quarter, but the Cardinals fought back with 16 points in the second half to record its first win of the year. BSU used a big-play offense, with two running backs rushing for more than 200 yards each, led by MiQuale Lewis who rushed for 301 yards on 26 carries and Cory Sykes rushing for 201 yards on 23 carries. Ball State rushed 57 times for 463 yards while completing just 2-of-10 passes for one yard.

NEARING THE 1,000 MARK: Saturday's contest marks the 999th in the Eastern Michigan University football team's 118 years of existence. The Green and White's journey to Charlottesville, Va., Oct. 23, to face the Virginia Cavaliers will mark the 1,000th intercollegiate contest.

EXTENDED ROAD TRIP: Eastern Michigan University football fans will have to wait four weeks before watching the Eagles play another home game. EMU played at Vanderbilt, Oct. 9, and will be at Ball State, Oct. 16, and at Virginia, Oct. 23, before returning home, Oct. 30, for a MAC West Division matchup with Toledo. That EMU-UT game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. in Rynearson Stadium.

PERFECT 3-FOR-3: First-year field-goal kicker Sean Graham (Commerce Township, Mich.-Orchard Lake St. Mary's-Florida State) has made all three of his field goal attempts this year for the Eagles. Graham, a transfer from Florida State, connected on a 25-yard field goal against Ohio, Oct. 2, and then added two at Vanderbilt, Oct. 9, with successful boots of 22 and 42 yards.

FINAL PIECE TO THE SCHEDULING PUZZLE: The Virginia-Eastern Michigan football game will kick off at 6 p.m. p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Oct. 11. The contest at Scott Stadium will be televised by ESPN3.com.

BIG PLAY RECEIVER: Sophomore wide receiver Kinsman Thomas (Bennettsville, S.C.-Marlboro County) has 29 receptions and seven touchdown catches in his 13-game EMU career and big plays have been a huge part of his success. Three of his touchdown passes have been for 40 yards or more and two of those have been for 71 and 77 yards. He has caught 29 passes for 594 yards and a 20.5-yard average per catch during his career

THIRD IN THE MAC: EMU continues to remain strong in the punting game this season. The Eagles are third in the Mid-American Conference and are 40th nationally in net punting at 37.71. Individually, rookie punter Jay Karutz (North Ryde, New South Wales, Australia-Holy Cross College) is ranked ninth in the league and 67th nationally with a 40.26 average.

BACK TO '60: The EMU department of athletics honored the team from 1960 on their 50th anniversery at the EMU-Ohio game, Oct. 2. The returning players were: Dale Coller, Gary Dode, Brian Dunn, Dan Gamble, Nick Genova, Paul Quenneville, Rayh Rafford and John Seckinger

LONG-RANGE SCORES: True freshman wide receiver Donald Scott (Apopka, Fla.-Apopka) has gone long-range on his two touchdown receptions this year. His first was a 51-yard touchdown catch, Sept. 18, against Central Michigan and his second was a 32-yard TD strike at Ohio State, Sept. 25.

STRONG START: True sophomore linebacker Matt Boyd (Southfield, Mich.-Lathrup) was impressive in the first start of his career Saturday, Sept. 25, at Ohio State. The 6-foot, 232-pound Boyd had a career-high 14 stops against the Buckeyes. Teammate Neal Howey (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary's-Upper Iowa) also had double-figure tackles against Ohio State, turning in 10 stop on the day.

TELEVISION TIME: The 2010 EMU football team will make seven television appearances. The EMU-Ohio State game, Sept. 25, was on ABC, and the EMU-Vanderbilt contest, Oct. 9, was on ESPNU. The EMU-Ohio game, Oct. 2, was shown on ESPN regional and there will be three games, EMU at Miami, Sept. 11, EMU home vs. Toledo, Oct. 30, and EMU at Buffalo, Nov. 20, on SportsTime Ohio. The Virginia game will also be on ESPN3.com

SHARING DUTIES: The EMU offense has called on both young quarterbacks for significant action this year. Sophomore Alex Gillett (Green Springs, Ohio-Clyde) has started all six games this year and has completed 72-of-131 passes for 857 yards and seven touchdowns. Gillett is also second on the team in rushing with 187 yards gained on 62 carries with one touchdown on the ground. Redshirt freshman Devontae Payne (Cleveland, Ohio-South) has played in four games and completed 16-of-38 passes for 161 yards.

MOVING UP: Senior tailback Dwayne Priest (Roanoke, Va.-Fleming-Fork Union Academy) is moving up in several EMU career rushing categories. He has played in 39 games for the Eagles, earning 19 starts in the past four years. He has rushed 408 times for the 10th spot with 1,627 yards gained, 11th in history, and his 19 touchdowns, 17 by rush and two by reception, are tied for 11th.
