Football Sweeps Weekly MAC Awards

Kim (offense), Mowchan (defense), and Devereaux (special teams) each earned honors
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly football awards today, Aug. 31, with players from Eastern Michigan University sweeping the honors following its 28-17 season and conference-opening victory over Sacramento State, Aug. 29. Noah Kim was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week, Zach Mowchan was tabbed the MAC Defensive Player of the Week, and Nick Devereaux earned MAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors with all three earning their first career MAC weekly awards.
Kim (Centreville, Va./Westfield/Michigan State/Coastal Carolina) was 27-of-38 passing for 279 yards and two touchdowns and added one more score with his feet to help lead the Eagles to an opening-night victory in MAC play against visiting Sacramento State, 28-17. Kim's 279 yards ranked as his fourth-best performance as an Eagle (13 games) as he recorded at least two passing scores and one rushing touchdown for the third time in his career, fourth-highest total by an EMU player since 1995. Kim, who came to Eastern without having recorded a rushing touchdown, has now run in seven scores, including the first points of the 2026 season. Additionally, he has recorded at least one passing and one rushing touchdown in six career games at EMU, which ranks third in the program (since 1995). Overall, his 71.1 completion percentage ranks second nationally through Week 0 while he also stands fourth nationally in passing yards (279) and second in points responsible for (18).
Mowchan (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) led a revamped defensive unit as he posted a game-high 14 tackles, including seven solo stops, while posting 1.5 TFLs as well. His tackles were one shy of equaling his career best of 15 recorded at Jacksonville State (Sept. 14, 2024). Overall, the defense stood tall against the Hornets in the MAC opener as it allowed just 10 offensive points that included a 40-yard field goal and a touchdown that came after a 10-play, 75-yard drive that needed over five minutes to secure. All told, Mowchan guided a defense that allowed just 34 total yards of offense to Sacramento State in the first half of play, including -21 yards rushing, only 271 total yards after averaging 416.5 last year, and forced two takeaways.
Devereaux (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice/Davenport) took care of kick return duties in the opener with Sacramento State and ran back three kicks for 81 yards, including a 40-yard scamper, in his first career returns. The fifth-year former walk-on ranks second nationally in combined kick return yards (81) and fourth in all-purpose yards as he finished with 154 total yards that included 73 yards receiving with one touchdown. His 154 all-purpose yards are the highest of his career, surpassing the 121 receiving yards he posted against Ohio last year (Oct. 25) and marked only the second time in his career he finished a game with 100+ all-purpose yards.
The award for Kim made it back-to-back weeks an Eastern Michigan player garnered the offensive honor after Dontae McMillan earned the final award of the 2025 season (Dec. 1) and marked the first time an EMU quarterback was honored since Cole Snyder garnered the award Oct. 21, 2024. On special teams, Devereaux was the first non-kicker to win the weekly award for EMU since Hamze El-Zayat was selected for his kick returning Sept. 4, 2023.
