The Incarnati Athletic Center, originally opened in 2019 as the Student-Athlete Performance Center and renamed in 2023 in honor of EMU Regent Emeritus Phil Incarnati, represents the latest major addition to Eastern Michigan University’s athletic campus. More than 300 alumni, donors, and guests attended the grand opening on August 27, 2019, even though student-athletes had been using the facility since mid-July. The project marked the first significant construction on the athletics campus since the opening of the George Gervin GameAbove Center in 1998 and was designed to provide a safe, high-performance environment for student-athletes across all sports while enhancing the fan experience at Rynearson Stadium.

Breaking ground in fall 2018, the two-story, 63,000-square-foot building houses a variety of operational and athletic spaces. The main entrance features an 18-foot-by-16-foot Block E brick hardscape where donors share their EMU stories and support. Guests are welcomed into the 1,288-square-foot Clouse Family Atrium, which highlights EMU athletics' history and championship success. A floor-to-ceiling glass panel offers views into Rynearson Stadium, and a 12-foot-tall replica Mid-American Conference championship trophy celebrates EMU’s record 159 team championships in the MAC.

The east side of the main floor contains a full-service equipment room, including offices, laundry facilities, and storage for athletic apparel and uniforms. Adjacent is the Thomas J. Lang Strength and Conditioning Center, also known as "T.J.’s Garage," a 7,000-square-foot performance area named after NFL Pro-Bowler T.J. Lang’s late father. The center includes inlaid weight tracks, cardio and plyometric training stations, and a nutrition center. Two roll-up garage doors provide the football team with direct access to "The Factory" at Rynearson Stadium.

Locker rooms and team meeting spaces are also on the main floor. The Phil Incarnati Football Locker Room features 115 lockers and direct access to the Brian Clouse Players’ Lounge, which provides a study and bonding space for football student-athletes. Eight position-specific team meeting rooms and a full-team auditorium-style meeting room equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology allow the coaching staff to conduct detailed, position-focused training and team-wide reviews.

The upper floor houses the sports medicine center, hydrotherapy room, recruiting lounge, and entertainment corridor. The nearly 5,000-square-foot sports medicine center provides rehabilitation equipment, athletic training offices, medical exam rooms, and storage for medical supplies. The hydrotherapy area features three in-ground therapy pools: an underwater treadmill pool, a cold plunge pool, and a hot/cold therapy pool, allowing multi-sport athlete rehabilitation in a professional, state-of-the-art environment. The 638-square-foot recruiting lounge overlooks Rynearson Stadium and provides a dynamic space for alumni, recruits, and guests, while the entertainment corridor enables events and gatherings for fans and supporters.

The Incarnati Athletic Center also features a state-of-the-art LED scoreboard at Rynearson Stadium. Measuring 29 feet high by 53 feet wide, with the full structure spanning 40 by 60 feet, the scoreboard offers more than 2,000 square feet of high-definition visual space. Its 15HD pixel layout is professional-grade technology, combined with a fixed-digit board providing game information including scores, time, down and distance. This scoreboard enhances the fan experience at Rynearson Stadium for football games and other events.

The Incarnati Athletic Center consolidates essential operations, training, and medical facilities under one roof, providing student-athletes with advanced resources for performance, health, and development. The combination of training, rehabilitation, and entertainment spaces, along with direct integration to Rynearson Stadium, positions the center as a cornerstone of EMU athletics and a central hub for alumni, supporters, and the campus community for years to come.
