Men's Swimming Pummels Oakland with 202-98 Win at Home

The Eagles won 11-of-16 events en route to the win over the Golden Grizzlies

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The third-ranked (mid-major) Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team defeated No. 13 (mid-major) Oakland University in dominating fashion, going away with a 202-98 win after capturing 11 of the 16 events at Michael H. Jones Natatorium Saturday, January 9.
Jacob Hanson led the Eagles by doing what he does best, winning. The freshman phenom won three more individual races Saturday in addition to swimming the first leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay team. He has now upped his win total to 19 so far this season with 12 of those being individual victories. Saturday, he tallied wins in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes, the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard medley relay.
Scott Murphy and Matt Zavislak each turned in an individual and relay victory. Murphy helped the 200-yard medley relay team to a convincing win before taking home a win by more than four seconds in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.28. Zavislak anchored wins for the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams and edged out teammate Keith Coghlan in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.07 to record three wins on the day.
Diver Jeffrey Craig swept his events with a career-high score of 381.90 in the three-meter dive and 294.90 in the one meter. Sam Dolato had a good day as well with a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing just ahead of Murphy with a time of 58.18.
Competing in his first dual meet with the Eagles, Justin Griggs recorded three victories. He touched the wall in 21.21 to take a win in the 50-yard freestyle before helping the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams to wins.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend, making the short jaunt across Washtenaw County to take on the University of Michigan. The meet will begin Jan. 16, at 11 a.m.
