YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan men's swimming and diving team will make the short trip across county to take on the University of Michigan in rare meet that will combine both squads into two teams, Blue and White, in an effort to bring the two Washtenaw County schools closer together. The meet is slated for Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. and will take place at Canham Natatorium.

The Eagles remain third in the CSCAA Mid-Major Division I poll while the Wolverines currently sit seventh in the CSCAA Division I poll. EMU defeated Oakland in its previous outing while U-M is coming off a victory over Indiana in its first Big Ten competition of the season.

FOR THE 46TH TIME: The 2009-10 season marks the 46th season for men's swimming and diving at Eastern Michigan University. Throughout the years, EMU has won 28 Mid-American Conference Championships, four NAIA Championships and was the NCAA Division II National Champion in 1972. The Eagles have only had three head coaches during its history of building one of the most successful programs at EMU. Bill Lewis began the program in 1964 before giving way to Mike Jones in 1968. Peter Linn has been at the helm of EMU swimming and diving since the 1988 season, leading the Eagles to 18 of the past 21 MAC titles.

SEEKING NO. 29: The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will be looking to win its 29th overall and fourth straight Mid-American Conference title this season. Last year, the Eagles registered a school record 1,046.5 points en route to the championship. EMU has won the past three titles and nine of the last 10. They lost nine seniors to graduation entering this season, but welcomed 12 freshmen and 13 newcomers to start the year.

ABOUT THE WOLVERINES: The University of Michigan is coming off its first Big Ten Conference dual meet against Indiana. The seventh-ranked Wolverines defeated the 20th-ranked Hoosiers, 158-82, using multiple wins from Dan Madwed and Tyler Clary. U-M won the first six events of the meet, building a 98-50 lead en route to the victory. Chris Morrison turned in runner-up finishes in the one and three-meter dives for the Wolverines as well.

LAST TIME OUT: In Eastern Michigan's last time out, the Eagles dominated Oakland University in a 202-98 drumming at Jones Natatorium Jan. 9. EMU took 11-of-16 events with Jacob Hanson snagging four including three individual events. He pushes his season total to 19 wins (12 individual). Senior Sam Dolato and transfer Justin Griggs each made their first splash of the season. Dolato took the 200-yard breaststroke while Griggs swam to victories in the 50-yard free and 200-yard medley and 400-yard free relays. Freshman diver, Jeffrey Craig, swept the one and three-meter dives. In the three-meter, he set a career hiigh with a score of 381.90.

EAGLES AND WOLVERINES COME TOGETHER: EMU and U-M will look to bring the two Washtenaw County school closer in an uncharacteristic inter-squad meet where both sides will converge and swim together with Eagles and Wolverines on common relay teams. The meet will be unscored but will consist of a Blue team and a White team. Events will begin at 11 a.m. at Canham Natatorium on the campus of U-M.

EAGLES JUMP TO THIRD IN MID-MAJOR POLL: The Eagles debuted at number four in the CSCAA Mid-Major Division I Swimming & Diving Poll and have since jumped to third after the most recent poll, released Dec. 27.
