EMU wins 10-of-16 events en route to win

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan women's swimming and diving team captured a 170-122 victory over the top-ranked Division II squad in the nation, Wayne State University, at Jones Natatorium Friday, Jan. 22.
The Eagles won 10 events on the night with Briana Emig, Sarah Kowalski and Danielle Hulvey combining to take seven of those. Emig on the evening, dominated the distance freestyle events, taking the 200, 500 and 1,000-yard frees. Samantha Partridge placed second in each of those behind her teammate and helped the Eagles complete the trifecta in the 200-yard free with Jenna Lindner placing a close third.
Kowalski won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events and posted her second-fastest time of the season in the 50-yard free, touching the wall in 24.02. Steph Cholyk took second and third in each event, respectively.
Hulvey did her damage in the diving events, sweeping both the one and three-meter dives. The Eagles swept the top-three spots in each event, with Kelly Hendricks and Leslie Vizurraga taking second and third in the one meter and Vizurraga and Christina Nunez-Wood taking second and third in the three-meter.
Sarah Maraskine placed first in the 200-yard backstroke and second in the 100-yard breaststroke while Elisa Torres took the 200-yard butterfly and Chelsea Allard swam to a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke.
EMU will meet a Mid-American Conference opponent for the first time since November when Ball State invades Jones Natatorium for an afternoon matinee dual Sat. Jan. 23, at 1 p.m.
