YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan men's swimming and diving team won eight events en route to a 168-127 victory over third-ranked, Division II Wayne State University at Jones Natatorium Friday night, Jan. 22.
Jacob Hanson and Justin Griggs combined with Scott Murphy and Matt Zavislak to lead the Eagles to a win in the 200-yard medley relay and then went on to take individual wins of their own later in the meet.
Hanson, who is quite familiar with the top of the leader board this season, turned in yet another victory after touching the wall with a time of 1:43.38 in the 200-yard freestyle. Meanwhile, Griggs, although new to the scene has already seen his fair share of success. In just his third meet with the Eagles, the junior swam to a win in the 100-yard butterfly while finishing second in the 50-yard free.
The Eagles, who remain third in the CSCAA Division I Mid-Major poll, also received wins from Owen Grey in the 200-yard butterfly, Troy Esentan in the 1,000-yard free and Tyler Capen in the 200-yard backstroke.
In the diving events, Chris Alberty took home a win in the one meter while Andrew Saunders brought it home for the Green and White in the three-meter dive.
The Eagles will take on Ball State Saturday afternoon in what will be their first Mid-American Conference dual since a win over Buffalo in early November. EMU will put its 51-meet win streak in MAC duals on the line as action is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
