FOR THE 46TH TIME:
The 2009-10 season marks the 46th season for men's swimming and diving at Eastern Michigan University. Throughout the years, EMU has won 28 Mid-American Conference Championships, four NAIA Championships and was the NCAA Division II National Champion in 1972. The Eagles have only had three head coaches during its history of building one of the most successful programs at EMU. Bill Lewis began the program in 1964 before giving way to Mike Jones in 1968. Peter Linn has been at the helm of EMU swimming and diving since the 1988 season, leading the Eagles to 18 of the past 21 MAC titles.

SEEKING NO. 29: The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will be looking to win its 29th overall and fourth straight Mid-American Conference title this season. Last year, the Eagles registered a school record 1,046.5 points en route to the championship. EMU has won the past three titles and nine of the last 10. They lost nine seniors to graduation entering this season, but welcomed 12 freshmen and 13 newcomers to start the year.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS: The Wayne State University men are currently ranked third in the Division II National poll and are coming off a dual meet loss to Division II top-ranked Grand Valley State Jan. 9. The Warriors dropped the meet 155-145 despite winning nine events. WSU and EMU have met the past four seasons with the Eagles taking each meeting including last season's dual, 164-79. The Warriors will use this meet in preparation for the highly competitive GLIAC Championships which begin Feb. 10.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS: Ball State enters enters this weekend's dual meet against the Eagles coming off a first place finish at the Ball State Relay Invitational, winning 11-of-12 events in defeating Valparaiso and IUPUI. This will be the Cardinals' second MAC meet of the season. They lost their first MAC dual to Buffalo by a score of 161-137 back on Nov. 7.

GOING STREAKING: The Eagles have won 17 straight meetings over Ball State, dating back to the 1992-93 season and will put their streak of 51 straight MAC dual meet wins on the line Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT: For the second consecutive year, Eastern Michigan competed with the U-M men in an uncharacteristic relay meet that saw the two schools come together to form two separate, but integrated teams. In the end, the Blue and White defeated the Maize and Green, 122-120, at Canham Natatorium. The 400-yard freestyle relay was the lone event normally seen in regular season meets. Nine other relays consisted of the 8x50-yard medley, 6x200-yard freestyle and 6x50-yard butterfly relays, to name a few.

EAGLES THIRD IN MID-MAJOR POLL: The Eagles debuted at number four in the CSCAA Mid-Major Division I Swimming & Diving Poll and have since jumped to third after the most recent poll, released Dec. 27.
