Men's Swimming & Diving Rings In New Year With 2nd Place Finish

The Eagles won three events en route to a second place finish at the FIU Invitational
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team rung in the New Year with a second place finish at the four-team FIU Invitational at the Bay Aquatic Center in Ventura, Fla. Saturday, Jan. 2.
The U.S. Air Force Academy took home the title, totaling 154 points and finished ahead of Eastern Michigan (104), McMaster (70) and American (22) in the year's first meet.
The Eagles won three events including the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard medley relays. The third place finishing 400-yard freestyle relay team of Matt Zavislak, Jake Heyblom, Keith Coghlan and Owen Grey touched the wall in 3:16.84, a mere five seconds behind first place McMaster.
The 200-yard breaststroke relay team placed second while the 200-yard freestyle relay team came in fourth.
EMU will compete next Saturday when it hosts Oakland University in a dual meet at Jones Natatorium beginning at 2 p.m.
