YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team will take on Michigan and Detroit-Mercy in their next two slated matches. A 2 p.m. tilt with the Wolverines will take place Sunday at the U-M Soccer Complex while the Titans of Detroit-Mercy will travel to Scicluna Field for a 4 p.m. start next Tuesday.

The Eagles (2-0-0) are eager to get their first win against Michigan as they enter play on Sunday with all-time record of 0-5-1 vs. the Wolverines (1-3-0). The lone draw between both squads was a 2-2 decision last season at Scicluna Field. Detroit-Mercy (1-0-0) kicked off their season with a 1-0 win over NAIA Notre Dame College of Ohio this week. The Eagles are riding a five-game unbeaten streak against the Titans entering play on Tuesday.

ABOUT THE WOLVERINES: Head Coach Greg Ryan welcomes back 75 percent
of his off ense from 2008 including his top three scorers. However, it hasn't
translated into much scoring, thus far, as the Wolverines are 1-3 through their
fi rst four games with just two goals scored, both coming in their lone win
against Valparaiso, Aug. 23. Despite the high number of returning players this
season, Michigan was still picked to fi nish 11th in the Big Ten after turning in a
4-10-5 overall record, 1-6-2 mark in Big Ten play. They're coming off two losses
to UW-Milwaukee and Marquette at the Gold Cup last weekend and will take
on Central Michigan at home on Thursday.

SCOUTING THE TITANS:
Detroit was picked to place in the same position they
fi nished during Horizon league play a season ago. The Titans turned in a fi fth
place fi nish in 2008 with an overall record of 8-9-1, 4-4 in conference play. Their
lone draw was a scoreless one, coming against Eastern Michigan, Sept. 2, 2008.
Detroit returns its top two scorers from last season in Trina Kochanski and Selena
Stanski. They defeated Notre Dame College of Ohio, an NAIA program, 1-0,
in their fi rst game of the year on Wednesday. Nina Carter netted a goal in the
32nd minute to give the Titans a win. They travel to Bowling Green on Friday.

STARTING OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT:
The Eagles are 2-0 to start a season for
the fi rst time since 2004 when they defeated Pittsburgh, Duquesne and Denver
to start the year 3-0. Ironically enough, the fi rst two wins that season were by
the same scores, but in inverse order. EMU took a 1-0 decision against Eastern
Illinois to open up the 2009 campaign and then answered a late goal by Indiana
State to pull out a 2-1 win against the Sycamores.

30 GAMES OVER: Head Coach Scott Hall has moved to 30 games above .500 for the first time since 2004. He's 107-77-25 in his tenure as the head man for EMU women's soccer. His all-time high-water mark prior to this season was 31 games in the midst of the '04 season. He can match that with a win over Michigan this weekend.

IN THE NICK OF TIME: Amanda Marsh's goal to beat Indiana State, 2-1, in the 89th minute Aug. 30, was the latest go-ahead goal in regulation for the Eagles since Chelsea Detrick stunned IUPUI with 0.9 seconds remaining Sept. 21, 2008. EMU won 2-1 that day as well and the game-winner was one of two goals for Detrick.

Other notable goals from last season include: Deana Kinter scored with less than a minute remaining in the season opener vs. Michigan to push the game to overtime where it would end 2-2 after two extra periods; Katie Zundel captured the game-winner in overtime vs. Ohio on Oct. 26, 2008, scoring in the 99th minute to propel EMU to a 2-1 victory; and Ashley Rodrigues also displayed late game heroics with a game-tying goal in the 85th minute vs. Central Michigan on Oct. 30, 2008.
