FOR THE 34TH TIME: The 2008-09 season marks the 34th season in Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving. The program was started in 1976 under Head Coach Mike Cook with the Eagles going 5-3-1 in the inaugural year. EMU has had eight coaches throughout the years, with Peter Linn taking over in 2004. As women's coach, Linn has helped the Eagles to two Mid-American Conference Championships while boasting a 41-14 overall record and a 29-10 MAC mark in four years.
SCOUTING THE BULLS: The University at Buffalo has gotten out to a 1-2 start in its first three meets of the 2009-10 campaign. The Bulls' two losses thus far have come to Mid-American Conference opponents, Miami and Ohio. In their most recent meet on the road at Ohio, UB suffered a close 154-146 defeat. Despite the loss, Meili Carpenter had a record-breaking day.
She posted impressive scores across the board, sweeping the one and three-meter events for the second meet in a row. They will host Eastern Michigan Friday, Nov. 6 before another MAC dual against Ball State Saturday, Nov. 7.
ABOUT THE ZIPS: Akron is 0-2 after Mid-American Conference losses to Ohio and Miami last weekend. The Zips registered 25 top-three finishes, but dropped a close one to the Bobcats Friday, Oct. 30. Stephanie Zielinski raced to two first place tallies against the defending MAC Champs, Miami, last Saturday. She claimed the top time in each the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races. Aside from battling the Eagles at home Saturday, Nov. 7, the Zips will also take on Ball State over the weekend as they seek their first MAC dual meet win of the season.
FULL HOME SLATE: The Eagles will have six home meets in 2009-10, including the annual EMU Invitational at Jones Natatorium. The next home meet for EMU will be a co-ed meeting with Purdue set for Friday, Nov. 13, at 5 p.m.
FREESTYLIN': Sarah Kowalski and Briana Emig swam the fastest times of the season in their respective events for Mid-American Conference swimmers last week. Kowalski posted a time of 51.87 seconds in the 100 freestyle against Toledo and UW-Milwaukee Saturday, Oct. 31. In the same meet, Emig swam to a time of 4:56.52 in the 500 freestyle, nearly three seconds faster the next closest finisher. Both swimmers recorded first place finishes.
