FOR THE 46TH TIME: The 2009-10 season marks the 46th season for men's swimming and diving at Eastern Michigan University. Throughout the years, EMU has won 28 Mid-American Conference Championships, four NAIA Championships and was the NCAA Division II National Champion in 1972. Arguably one of the most successful programs at EMU, the Eagles have only had three head coaches during their history. Bill Lewis began the program in 1964 before giving way to Mike Jones in 1968. Peter Linn has been at the helm of EMU swimming and diving since the 1988 season, leading the Eagles to 18 of the past 21 MAC titles.

LOOKING FOR 29: The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will be looking to win its 29th overall and fourth straight Mid-American Conference title this season. Last year, the Eagles registered a school record, 1,046.5 points en route to the championship. EMU has won the past three titles and nine of the last 10. They lose nine seniors to graduation coming into this season, but they welcome 12 freshmen and 13 newcomers to start the year.

ABOUT THE BULLS: The University at Buffalo men's team is 1-0 after a win over Duquesne in the season opener back on Oct. 23. It was tied 110-110 heading into the final event and the Bulls' 400 freestyle relay came through with a six-second victory to prevail 123-114. They will host the Eagles this Friday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m.

54 AND COUNTING: With last week's win over UW-Milwaukee, the Eagles pushed their impressive dual meet winning streak to 54 straight. Eastern Michigan will travel to Buffalo Friday, Nov. 6 with the hopes of pushing the streak to 55 straight. They defeated the Bulls, 180-116, in last season's meeting on Nov. 7, 2008.

THREE NEW AFFILIATES JOIN THE MAC: The Mid-American Conference added three new affiliate members for the 2009-10 season. Evansville, Missouri State and Southern Illinois will compete at the 2009-10 MAC Championships which will take place at Jones Natatorium March 4-6.

THE PASSING OF AN EMU LEGEND: Mike Jones, the head coach of the highly successful Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving program from 1967-88, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, after a short hospital stay. He succumbed to multiple organ failure. The 75-year-old Jones (12-6-33) was a native of Detroit, Mich. and graduated from Ferndale Lincoln High School in 1951. He completed his undergraduate degree at EMU in 1955 and earned two master's degrees, in 1963 and 1967 at Eastern. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Bates), sons Kyle and Jay and four grandchildren.
