Soccer Looks To Continue MAC Unbeaten Streak

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team will host Miami and Ball State in a pair of Mid-American Conference matches this weekend at Scicluna Field. The Eagles enter play 6-2-4 overall with an unbeaten MAC record of 2-0-2, good for second place.
EMU will meet Miami Friday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m. The Eagles will try to snap a two-game skid to the Redhawks (6-4-2, 2-1-1 MAC). Sunday, Oct. 11, Eastern will square off with Ball State (4-7-0, 2-2-0 MAC) who is 1-5 on the road this season. Live stats will be available for both contests at EMUEagles.com.

ABOUT THE REDHAWKS: Miami University sits in third place in the MAC right behind Eastern Michigan and is coming off wins over Bowling Green and defending champion, Toledo. Stephanie Laser scored her first goal of the season in the 57th minute to upset the Rockets and assisting on the play was All-MAC forward, Sara Lund. Lund leads the Redhawks with 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists) this season while Allison Berkey also has four goals to go with one assist. Goalkeeper, Krista Pace has started every game and has compiled three shutouts thus far. Head Coach Bobby Kramig is in his 13th season at Miami and has the Redhawks unbeaten in four of their last games. Miami has outscored its opponents 19-9 so far in 2009.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS: Ball State University has won two of its last three matches, but fell in its most recent outing to Toledo, 4-3. The Cardinals held a 3-0 advantage in the first half before Toledo scored four unanswered goals, including the game-winner with one second remaining. That was Ball State's first loss at home. On the road, the Cardinals are 1-5 with their only win coming at Buffalo Oct. 2. They've scored 16 goals this season while allowing a league-high 31. Megan Ridley leads the team with 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists) while Jacki Eft has a team-high five assists to go along with one goal. Michael Lovett is in his second season as the Cardinals' head coach.
LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles opened up MAC play at home with two wins, their first wins of the 2009 MAC season. Friday, Oct. 2, EMU defeated Buffalo be a score of 2-0. Chelsea Detrick and Amanda Marsh each scored goals in the second half while Maggie Manville made five saves for her fourth shutout of the season. The Green and White followed that win with another over Kent State Sunday, Oct. 4. Detrick scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season and Mona Budani answered her teammate with a shutout of her own, her third this year. As a team, EMU has shutout three straight opponents.
DETRICK EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS: Sophomore forward, Chelsea Detrick, was named Co-Player of the Week (Oct. 5) in the MAC, sharing the honor with Kelsey Pichel of Ohio. The native of Grosse Point, Mich. scored two goals last week, each going down as game-winners over Buffalo and Kent State. It was Detrick's first career Player of the Week honor. In 2008, she led the league with 11 goals and 24 points as a freshman.
HALL GETS 110TH CAREER VICTORY: It took five tries, but Head Coach Scott Hall finally earned his 110th career victory with a 2-0 win over Buffalo Friday, Oct. 2. He's the winningest coach in Eastern Michigan University women's soccer history with a career record of 111-79-29.
BUILDING A NEW SHUTOUT STREAK: Eastern Michigan had a streak of 466 minutes snapped earlier this season, but have a new one going entering play this weekend. They've shutout opponents in three straight games and have not allowed a goal in over 317 minutes spanning over four games. They'll look to extend that streak with a pair of home matches this weekend. The Eagles are 4-1-1 at home this season with with three shutouts.
UNBEATEN IN MAC HOME OPENERS: The Eagles remained unbeaten in MAC home openers all-time after their 2-0 win over Buffalo Friday, Oct. 2. EMU is 11-0-2 all-time and has won five of its last six home openers overall. Both ties came to Akron in 2007 and Buffalo in 2003.
