YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team got its second straight win, receiving a goal by Chelsea Detrick for the 1-0 shutout of Kent State. In a day the 1999 team was honored for winning the MAC regular season and tournament titles, the Eagles took another step towards matching that with a win at Scicluna Field Sunday, Oct. 4.

Members of the 1999 squad were on hand for the 10th anniversary celebration of their championship season. The Eagles, who have aspirations of equaling their success this season, won for the second time in a row and it was the defense that stepped up once again, like they have time after time this year.

Monique Budani denied every chance by the Golden Flashes, who dropped their second straight match. The junior made nine saves en route to her third shutout of the season, the seventh overall for the Eagles in 2009.

After a scoreless, back-and-forth first half, Detrick finally gave EMU the advantage in the 61st minute. The sophomore took a pass from Katie Lozar and went one-on-one with her defender near the left corner, crossed her over towards the middle of the field, and then beat Kent State goalkeeper, Kelly Sherwood, to the far right post. It was Detrick's fourth goal of the season.

The crossbar was Budani's best friend on Sunday. Three shots by the Golden Flashes ricocheted off the crossbar in the second half, denying Kent State a goal for the second straight game. The Eagles' Ashley Rodrigues experienced the same fate, by having one of her shots go off the crossbar in the first half.

With the win, Eastern Michigan pushed its record to 6-2-4 overall, 2-0-2 in the MAC. Meanwhile, Kent State dropped to 6-5-0 overall, 2-2-0 in the MAC. The Eagles will stay home for their next two MAC contests, taking on Miami Friday, Oct. 9 and Ball State Sunday, Oct. 11.

Friday's match is slated for 3 p.m. at Scicluna Field.
