Eagles Make Halloween Splash with 74-57 Win Over UW-Milwaukee

Eagles defeat UW-Milwaukee, 74-57, in first meet of 2009-10

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan men's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2009-10 season with a 74-57 win at Jones Natatorium over UW-Milwaukee Saturday, Oct. 31. The win marked the first for the Eagles this year after stellar days by Scott Murphy and Matt Zavislak.
Senior Murphy and sophomore Zavislak began the meet in style for EMU by helping the Eagles to a first place finish in the 400 medley relay. Freshmen Tyler Capen and Jacob Hanson also contributed to the win. Murphy then followed that up with a win in the 100 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 58.01.
Zavislak added to the 400 medley relay win with two more first place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Owen Grey turned in a solid effort as well, placing first in the 200 butterfly and second in the 100 fly.
The Eagles saw two fantastic efforts by freshmen on the boards with Andrew Saunders placing first in the one meter and second in the three meter. Jeffrey Craig was on the opposite end of his teammate, placing first in the three-meter and second in the one meter.
Capen claimed victory in the 200 backstroke while Hanson won the 500 freestyle as well. The Green and White will be back in action Friday, Nov. 6, when they travel to Buffalo for a MAC dual meet against the Bulls. Both teams will hit the water at 5 p.m.
