Junior Darby Peters tied for fifth with a two-over 146 (73-73)
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University junior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) fired back-to-back rounds of 73 at the Nittany Lion Invitational on the par-72, 6,300-yard Penn State Blue Course Saturday afternoon, Oct. 3. The Lake Orion, Mich. native sits in a two-way tie with Western Michigan University's Elise Swartout, two strokes back of Rollins College's Joanna Coe at even-par 144 (74-70).
In the team standings, Eastern Michigan recorded a score of 612 (306-306) and in is third place behind Rollins (596) and Western Michigan (608). The Nittany Lions carded a 618 to end the day in fourth place. Ball State University sits in fourth with a score of 619 while Yale University is fifth at 620. Longwood University (625), Boston College (629), the College of William and Mary (629), Columbia University (638), the University of Richmond (638) and Rutgers University (638) rounded out the top 10.
It was a challenging day for nearly all 90 golfers as only Coe shot par-or-better. Freshman Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) is tied for ninth place with a 150 (73-77). Junior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls Texas-Tech Univ.) recorded a pair of 77s for 15th place and freshman Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) managed a 162 (83-79) for a tie for 52th. Junior Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) is tied for 80th with a 171 (85-86). Playing as an individual, senior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) fired a157 (81-76) and is in a tie for 28th.
The third and final round will continue tomorrow with a shotgun start at 9 am.
