RIO VERDE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – Junior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) fired an opening round 70 to lead the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team Friday afternoon, March 5, at the Rio Verde Invitational. Scott sits in second place, while the Eagles are in fourth place as a team with a 297 on the par 71, 6,260-yard Quail Run Course at the Rio Verde Country Club.
Behind Scott, freshmen Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) and Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) each recorded rounds of 75 to sit in a nine-way tie for 17th place. Junior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) is tied for 30st with a 77, while junior Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) is tied for 72nd with an 82.
The University of Michigan shot a 291 in the first round and holds a four shot lead over the University of Arkansa-Little Rock with a 295. Minnesota is third with a 296 followed by EMU and Kansas. The Wolverines' Ashley Bauer holds down the top on the leader board with a three-under 68.
Round two of the Rio Verde Invitational will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 6.
