Women's Golf Remains Fourth at the Rio Verde Invitational

RIO VERDE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – Junior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) moved into a tie for third place with a 145 (70-75) after the second day of action at the Rio Verde Invitational Saturday afternoon, March 6. As a team, the Eagles are in fourth place with a 598 (297-301) on the par 71, 6,260-yard Quail Run Course at the Rio Verde Country Club.

Behind Scott, freshman Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) carded rounds of 75 and 74 for a 12th place tie with a 36-hole mark of 149. Freshman Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich. -Walled Lake Central) is in a tie for 21st with a 152 (75-77). Junior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) is tied for 24th with a 153 (77-76), while junior Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) rounded out the lineup in a tie for 54th with a 158 (82-76).

Michigan placed itself in the Rio Verde Invitational record book with a second round team score of 287, besting Notre Dame's second rounds score of 290 in 2008 for the lowest in tournament history. The Wolverines opened a 14-stroke lead on second place Arkansas-Little Rock. Michigan is in line to become the first team to win the Rio Verde Invitational two times, having captured the title in 2006. U-M's Ashley Bauer matched her career low of 3-under par 68, becoming the first golfer in tournament history to score 68 twice and now leads the Trojans' Meghan Vaughn by seven strokes heading into the final round.

There are nine golfers within five strokes of Vaughn's second place standing, including Swartout and Hamilton. There have been six rounds of par or better, with three golfers recording scores in red figures - Bauer (68, twice); Vaughn (70) and EMU's Scott (70).

The final round of the 2010 Rio Verde Invitational begins with a shotgun at 8 a.m.
