The EMU gymnastics team will head to DeKalb, Ill. to face NIU Sunday, Jan. 25.

Coming off a victory in its season opener last weekend, the Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team will head to DeKalb, Ill. Sunday, Jan. 25, for a Mid-American Conference match-up with the Northern Illinois University Huskies.
LAST MEETING: The Eagles and Huskies have not met in a dual meet since the 2007 season when NIU registered a 194.375-193.075 over EMU in DeKalb, Ill. However, the two teams met in regular season action last year at the Bowling Green State University Tri-Meet, where the Eagles placed second behind the Huskies.
LAST WEEK VS. WMU: The Eagles topped the Broncos for the second-year in-a-row last weekend, claiming a 190.500-180.125 victory over Western Michigan University. Senior Duyen Zu Vuong (Ottawa, Ont.-DelaSalle) picked up where she left off last season, carding a team-best all-around score of 38.525 to lead EMU. The senior recorded a 9.675 on the vault, a 9.500 on the bars, a 9.625 mark in the floor exercise and a 9.725 on the beam, which was good for first place.
HOME SWEET HOME:The team returns to the friendly confines of Warner Gymnasium on Feb. 1 for its home opener when they take on the Falcons of Bowling Green State University at 2 p.m. Including the MAC Championship meet, the Eagles posted a 2-1 mark against the Falcons last season, their one loss being a 191.950-191.525 defeat in the 2008 season opener.
FIRST-YEAR SUCCESS:Freshmen Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) and Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Inst.) performed well for the Eagles in their first collegiate competition, as Yourick carded a 9.575 on the bars and a 9.425 in the floor exercise, while Wood registered a 9.325 in the floor exercise
THE GREAT NORTHWEST: The team will have the opportunity to face some of the nation's best gymnasts when they travel to Seattle, Wash. in late February for three meets. The team begins its road trip at the University of Washington, which includes the UW Huskies, the Beavers from Oregon State University, and the Fighting Illini from the University of Illinois. As a team, Oregon State placed second at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships and posted a sixth place finish at the NCAA Championships last season, while Washington and Illinois both sent gymnasts to the NCAA Championships. The Eagles will stay in Seattle for two meets, Feb. 24 and 27, against the Falcons from Seattle Pacific University.
