Gymnastics Falls at NIU

DEKALB, Ill. – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team suffered its first setback of the season today, Jan. 25, in DeKalb, Ill., as the Huskies of Northern Illinois University edged the Eagles, 194.350-192.625, in a Mid-American Conference match-up.
The loss drops the Eagles to 1-1 (1-1 MAC) this season, while the Huskies improve to 2-0 (2-0 MAC) with the win.
Coming off a solid performance last weekend at Western Michigan, junior gymnast Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ont.- Widdifield) followed it up with impressive marks against the Huskies, recording a season-best all-around score of 39.075, including a 9.750 mark on the vault, a 9.725 on the balance beam, a 9.800 in the floor exercise, and a 9.800 on the bars, tying NIU's Natalie Blum and Holly Reichard for first place.

Senior Maureen Moss (Gurnee, Ill.-Warren, Township) performed well for the Eagles, carding a 9.700 on the balance beam to finish just behind Grigg, while freshmen Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) and Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Inst.) each tallied career-high marks in the floor exercise, as Yourick tallied a 9.775, while Wood notched a 9.725 against the Huskies.
The Eagles outscored the Huskies, 48.625-48.475, in the floor exercise, but NIU managed to top EMU in the remaining events.
The Eagles will compete at home for the first time this season when they host the Falcons of Bowling Green State University Sunday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. in Warner Gymnasium.
