FOR THE 45TH TIME
: The 2008-09 season marks the 45th season for men's swimming and diving at Eastern Michigan University. Throughout the years, EMU has won 27 Mid-American Conference Championships, four NAIA Championships and was the NCAA Division II National Champion in 1972. Arguably one of the most successful programs at EMU, the Eagles have only had three head coaches during their history. Bill Lewis began the program in 1964 before giving way to Mike Jones in 1968. Peter Linn has been at the helm of EMU swimming and diving since the 1988 season, leading the Eagles to 17 of the past 20 MAC titles.

EAGLES RETURN TO JONES NATATORIUM: After spending some time in Florida for training and then traveling to take on Oakland University, the Eastern Michigan men's swimming and diving team returns home to Jones Natatorium to host Wayne State University Friday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. The Eagles and Warriors both participated in the EMU Invitational earlier this season (Dec.5-6), as Wayne State finished runner-up to the host Eagles. The Warriors are currently ranked No. 1 in Division II swimming and diving. EMU is 5-1 all-time versus the Warriors, having dropped its only meet to WSU during the 1964-65 season, the first season of men's swimming at EMU. Last year, EMU came away with a 145-87 victory.

BACK TO THE MAC: The Eagles will hit the road for their second Mid-American Conference meet of the season, traveling to Muncie, Ind. to take on the Ball State Cardinals, Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. EMU last swam against a conference opponent Nov. 7, recording a 180-116 win against Buffalo. Last season, EMU posted a 196-95 win at Jones Natatorium on Senior Day against BSU. The Eagles have not dropped a MAC dual meet since the 1997-98 season, having won 51 consecutive match-ups against conference opponents.

CLOSE ONE AGAINST THE GRIZZLIES: The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team dropped a close one the last time out, falling to Oakland, 151-147. The men won eight events on the afternoon, but the Eagles were unable to come away with a victory. It was the first dual meet loss to OU in the last 11 match-ups.

STAY LIVE WITH THE EAGLES: A new feature for the 2008-09 season will be the addition of live meet scoring for all home meets at Jones Natatorium. Go to EMUEagles.com to access the live scoring.

EMU WINS 11TH CONSECUTIVE EMU INVITE: The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team captured its 11th consecutive EMU Invitational title, Dec. 6, after racking up 1,220 points. During the first day of competition, Derick Roe won the 100 free, while Don Ellison took the 200 breast and Ryan Fulkerson won the 200 fly. The 400 freestyle relay team won the final event of the first day, putting the Eagles on top. EMU wasted no time on the second day, winning the first four events to distance itself from the rest of the competition. Matt Guinan swept the one and three-meter dives for the Eagles while Ellison did the same with the 200 and 400 IM races. The Eagles have not lost their own Invitational since the 1996-97 season.

ROE NAMED MAC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Senior Derick Roe was selected the MAC Swimmer of the Week for the second time in his career after helping EMU defeat Buffalo, Nov. 7, and Xavier, Nov. 8. The senior won four individual events on the weekend, sweeping the 50 and 100 free races against both opponents. He was also a member of the winning 400 medley relay team in both meets.

LOOKING FOR 28: The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will be looking to win its 28th overall Mid-American Conference title this season. The Eagles have won the past two titles and eight of the last nine. EMU lost only three seniors from last year's squad and returns 12 swimmers who earned All-MAC honors last season.
