FAYETTEVILLE, Ark—Senior Eric Alejandro (Pembroke Pines, Fla.-Flanagan) will represent Eastern Michigan University at the 2008 NCAA Championships, June 11-14, in Des Moines, Iowa, after finishing second in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship Saturday, May 31, in Fayetteville, Ark.

Alejandro ran the second-fastest time in school history, running 50.51. He trails only Jeff Dils’ mark of 50.08 seconds, which was set in 1979. This is the second consecutive year in which he has qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 400 hurdles. Last year, he finished fifth in the region and 19th in the country.

Josh Karanja just missed out on qualifying for the national championship, as he finished seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:00.46.

For the women, Melissa Green (Brecksville, Ohio-Broadview Heights) competed in  the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 11:21.06, good for 17th.
