Finishes 20th in the 400-meter hurdles
DES MOINES, Iowa — Eric Alejandro (Pembroke Pines, Fla.- Flanagan), a senior on the men's track and field team, closed out his career at Eastern Michigan University Wednesday evening, June 11, at the 2008 NCAA Track and Field Championship in Des Moines, Iowa.
The 2008 Mid-American Conference outdoor track and field Most Valuable Performer finished the 400-meters with a time of 51.56 seconds, to finish 20th in a field of 26 athletes.
Alejandro qualified for the NCAA Championship by finishing second in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship, running 50.51 seconds, the second-best time in school history. Prior to that, he was named MAC Championship MVP after winning the 110 and 400-meter hurdles and was a member of the winning 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams.
Alejandro had a clean sweep this year as a senior, winning all three MAC Championship hurdle races (60-meter hurdles, indoors; 110 and 400 hurdles, outdoor) and was a part of three total relay wins (4x400, indoor and outdoor; 4x100, outdoor). His lone loss came in the 400-meters at the indoor championship where he finished fourth. He took home three career Athlete of the Week honors, all earned during the 2008 season.
