Men's Swimming Captures 11th Consecutive EMU Invitational Title

Eagles rack up 1,220 points en route to victory
YPSILANTI, Mich.- The Eastern Michigan University men’s swimming and diving team accumulated 1,220 points en route to capturing its 11th consecutive EMU Invitational title, Dec. 6 at Jones Natatorium.
Following the Eagles in second place was Wayne State with 948 points, with Kalamazoo taking third with 647 points. Findlay placed fourth (174), with Calvin (152), Oakland (56) and Alma (30) rounding out the participants.
The Eagles started the morning session strong, winning the 200 medley relay by out-touching Wayne State by 0.8. Don Ellison (King City, Ont.-King City Secondary) followed that up with a win in the 400 IM before Ryan Fulkerson (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon) swept the butterfly events, winning the 100 fly to go with his win in the 200 fly Friday (Dec. 5).
Senior Dan Kish (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton) hit the wall first in the 200 free, followed by Sam Dolato (Howell, Mich.-Howell) and Ellison finishing 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke. Ellison swept both IM’s, winning the 200 IM in the evening session of the two-day event.
Senior Derick Roe (Sidney, Ohio-Sidney) broke the 20-second mark in the 50 free, hitting the wall in 19.94 to win the event. Matt Guinan (Victor, N.Y.-Victor Central) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives on the afternoon. With his scores, he has qualified for the NCAA Zone Meet at the end of the season. The Eagles then captured the 400 medley relay to end the Invite.
The Eagles now take some time off for finals and winter training in Orlando, Fla. EMU will be back in action in the new year, Jan. 10, at Oakland.
