Four second half goals help EMU roll
YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team picked up their first win of the 2007 season with a 4-0 shutout over the University of Detroit Titans, here today at Scicluna Field. The game was moved from Detroit to Scicluna Field due to ongoing construction at the Titans’ facility.
The Eagles doubled up the Titans with shots on goal, connecting on four of 10 shots taken.
After playing to a 0-0 draw in the first half, EMU wasted no time in the second frame getting started. Sophomore Ashley Rodrigues connected on a pass from fellow sophomore Katie Lozar for her first goal of the season, giving EMU the 1-0 advantage.
Five minutes later, junior Renee Farrell would feed senior Sara Schiffbauer for the second EMU goal of the half and first of her season, bringing the score to 2-0.
In the 72nd minute, junior mid-fielder Ashley Upton would increase the Green and White lead, taking an assist from junior forward Jessica Lathrop to put the Eagles out in front, 3-0.
Senior mid-fielder Samantha Beard would tack on another goal in the 85th minute for the Eagles, her first of the season. Beard was assisted by freshman Tessa Acker.
The Eagles will be away from Scicluna Field for nearly three weeks, starting with a non-conference contest Tuesday, Sept. 11 against the Mastodons of IPFW. Scheduled start time is set for 7 p.m.
