MU’s Dave Adamek breaks varsity record in shot put; two age-group world records set
YPSILANTI, Mich.--There were plenty of record-setting efforts here Saturday, Feb. 11, in the EMU Classic Indoor Track Meet on the Bob Parks Track in Bowen Field House and EMU junior Dave Adamek (Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada-Ridgeway Crystal Beach) came up with one of them.
Adamek won the shot put with a throw of 60-feet-8.75 which not only was a varsity record but also a Bowen Field House mark. Teammates Matt Pinter (Big Rapids, Mich.-Big Rapids) and Jarid Pearson (Walled Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Western) were second and third in the shot at 56-feet-10.25 inches and 46-feet-11inches.
Other EMU winners were: Josh Karanja (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada-Nepean) in the mile in 4:12.33; Roy Shavers (Flint, Mich.-Central) in the 200 meters in :21.54; Fred Blackwell (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Loy Norrix) in the 400-meter dash in :49.48; Adam Kring (Jeddo, Mich.-Port Huron Northern-U-M) in the high jump at 6-feet-10.25 inches; Kyle Holmes (Detroit, Mich.-Country Day) in the long jump at 20-feet-1.75 inches and tird in the triple jump at 38-feet-4.75; and Pinter in the weight throw at 58-feet-4.75 inches.
The age-group world records in the meet were turned in by Ypsilanti High School product Dennis Lewis with a high jump of 6-feet-2.5 inches for a age 45-49 world record; Paul Babits with a pole vault of 15-feet-11 for a world age-group record for 45-49 years-of-age; and Nicole Forester with a high jump of 6-feet-2 inches.
