EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team competed Friday, Sept. 11 at the 2026 Spartan Cross Country Invitational, held at Forest Akers East Golf Course on the Michigan State University campus, finishing sixth in the team standings with 184 points against a strong field.
How It Happened
Michigan State University claimed the team title with 15 points, followed by Butler University (64), Ohio State University (103), Ohio University (119) and Southern Indiana (131) ahead of Eastern Michigan's 184. The Eagles placed their five scoring runners inside the top 80 of the 8K field, with two displacers pushing opposing runners further back in the standings.
Leading the way for Eastern Michigan was Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College), who crossed 10th overall in 24:46.3 — the top individual finish among all Eagles and the highest placement for an EMU runner in the field. Wiles arrived at East Lansing as the reigning MAC Runner of the Week after winning the season-opening Jeff Drenth Memorial on Sept. 4, and he backed that momentum with another strong effort against one of the most competitive early-season fields on the schedule. Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) followed as EMU's second scorer, finishing 37th in 25:33.9, while freshman Mohammed Mohammed (Cary, N.C./Green Level) made an immediate impression in his first collegiate 8k, placing 40th in 25:40.6 to slot in as the third scorer in a 23-team race.
Blake Rodgers (Belpre, Ohio/Belpre/Wright State) rounded out the middle of EMU's scoring group with a 72nd-place finish in 26:23.4, and Isaac Garcia (Greeley, Colo./South County) completed the scoring five in 78th at 26:28.7. Carson Vanderschaaf (Marquette, Mich./Marquette Senior) and Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College) finished 94th in 26:42.5 and 117th in 27:04.6, respectively, to help push opposing scorers further back in the standings. The meet marked Eastern Michigan's return to the Spartan Invitational for the first time since Sept. 15, 2017.
