HILLSDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan track and field programs delivered a strong showing with five event wins at the Hillsdale Last Chance meet in Hillsdale, Mich., Wednesday, May 6.
How it Happened - Men
For the men, Leland Godfrey (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) won the shot put at 16.69 meters (54-09.25). Andrew Azunque (Naples, Fla./First Baptist Academy) won the long jump at 7.20 meters (23-07.50), matching his career best, while Gabe Oliveira (São Paulo, Brazil/Escola Estadual Jornalista David Nasser/Central Arizona) was runner-up at 7.03 meters (23-00.75).
DeMarrio Roetherford (Detroit, Mich./Wyandotte/Madonna) placed second in discus at 47.78 meters (156-09) and third in the hammer throw with a 56.28m (184-8) mark. Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) was fourth in the hammer throw elite field with a toss of 59.61m (195-7).
On the track, Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) won the 400m hurdles in 52.95 and also advanced in the 110m hurdles alongside Leo Ignacio (Saline, Mich./Saline), who finished second in the finals with a time of 14.27.
How it Happened - Women
On the women's side, Alba Viñals Calixto (Arinsal, Andorra/Escola Andorrana de Segona Ensenyança d'Ordino) continued her stellar debut year by winning the 400, hurdles in 1:01.11. In distance, Frankie Moore (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) took top honors in the 3,000m steeplechase at 12:05.98.
Nikol Antoniadi (Didimoticho, Greece/Geniko Lykeio Didimotichou) placed third in the 100-meter hurdles, and Alimot Alowonle (Lagos, Nigeria/Tindip College) finished fifth in the 100m and seventh in the 200m.
In field events, Ashtan Winfrey (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Africentric Early College) earned runner-up in the long jump with 5.70 meters (18-08.50), while Savannah Breitwiser (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Central/Michigan State) took fourth in the shot put at 13.53 meters (44-04.75) and ninth in discus at 39.32 meters (129-00).
Tatyana Green (Troy, Ohio/Troy) saw two personal bests with her discus throw of 36.12 meters (118-06) and hammer throw of 40.03m (131-4). Nicolette Lewis (Fairburn, Ga./Hoover) also earned a new best in the hammer throw of 45.34m (148-9) for sixth place.
