Track & Field Wraps Up Jesse Owens Invitational

The Eagles will see action at two more in-state meets next week before the MAC Outdoor Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan track and field programs competed at the Jesse Owens Invitational, hosted by Ohio State University, at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, Friday-Saturday May 1-2, notching several strong performances.
How it Happened – Men
On the men's side, two Eagles earned second-place finishes. Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) ran a 1:49.18 for second in the men's 800m, and Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) was runner-up in the men's hammer throw at 63.17m (207-03).
Leland Godfrey (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) delivered a 16.90m (55-05.50) shot put for fifth place. In the distances, Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix) took eighth in the men's 1500m in personal best 3:53.06.
Additional top-10s included DeMarrio Roetherford (Detroit, Mich./Wyandotte/Madonna),10th in men's discus (46.59m, 141-05), and Samuel Jeffery (Fonthill, Ontario/E.L. Crossley Secondary), eighth in men's javelin (47.95m, 157-03).
How it Happened – Women
On the women's side, Christiana Coleman (Pompano Beach, Fla./Dillard) finished sixth in the 800m at 2:09.54, just off her all-time top-10 program mark.
Savannah Breitwiser (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Central/Michigan State) placed ninth in the women's shot put (13.61m, 44-08.00) and 15th in the discus (37.53m, 123-01). Aleah Johnson (Botkins, Ohio/Botkins) turned in a 12th-place discus finish (40.13m, 131-08) and 18th in hammer (48.11m, 157-10).
On the track, Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Easton Area/Rutgers) and Demetria Henderson (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) finished 10th and 17th, respectively, in the women's 800m.
