Track & Field Finishes Two-Meet Weekend

The Eagles saw a combined 22 personal best performances

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track & field programs completed another split-squad weekend, as athletes competed in the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., April 16-17, and the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays in Hillsdale, Mich., April 17-18.
The programs saw a combined total of 22 personal bests throughout the weekend, with multiple event wins and program top 10 marks.
How it Happened – Wake Forest Invitational
The distance squad was highlighted by multiple personal bests, including Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College), as he ran a best time in the 1,500m of 3:39.87, leading the conference as the only sub-3:40 time, along with it being the second-best time in program history. Jimmy Geller (London, England/Davenant Foundation School) also ran a personal best time in the 1,500m of 3:45.60, ranking third in the conference, as did Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College) in 3:46.70, and Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney), who ran a personal best 3:53.34.
On the women's side, Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Rutgers) ran a 4:33.64 in the 1,500m, and Lucy Jones (Haverhill, England/Normanhurst School) ran the 5,000m in 17:49.35.
How it Happened – Hillsdale GINA Relays
The men's team were highlighted by multiple event wins. Bamidele Ajayi (Eikiti State, Nigeria/Metropolitan International College) claimed the victory in the 400m in a personal best time of 46.74, while Ray Glory-Ejoyokah (Southfield, Mich./Wylie E. Groves) won the discus throw championship with a 54.40m (178-05) toss, and DeMarrio Roetherford (Detroit, Mich./Wyandotte/Madonna) followed in second place with a throw of 54.30m (165-05).
Leo Ignacio (Saline, Mich./Saline) earned a second place finish in the 110m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.20, and Olawole Olanrewaju (Akoko North-West, Nigeria/Wallas Universal Secondary School) finished second behind Ajayi in the 400m in 47.14.
Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) ran a best time of 14.23 in the 110m hurdles prelims, while also running a personal best 48.45 in the 400m.
Also earning a second place finish was Lucky Fiaku (Nimo, Nigeria/Busy International Secondary) in the high jump with a clearance of 2.05m (6-08.75).
The women's team saw Kaydence Doxley (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) earn the win in the long jump with a personal best leap of 6.07m (19-11.00), now holding the ninth best mark in program history.
Also earning an event win was Uduak Udosoh (Abak, Nigeria/Ibiaku Clan Community Secondary), as she won the 400m in a personal best time of 54.23. She was followed by Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Tayelolu Memorial), who finished in second place in 54.69.
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) ran an 11.58 in the 100m prelims, breaking the meet record, while Jordynn Young (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) ran a personal best time of 11.79 in the 100m finals.
Liusmar Rivas Velasquez (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) had a double-personal best weekend, running the 100m hurdles finals in 13.93, along with crossing the line in 55.06 in the 400m.
The open discus throw saw two Eagles earn personal bests, as Tatyana Green (Troy, Ohio/Troy) threw a 33.47m (109-09) mark, and Nicolette Lewis (Fairburn, Ga./Hoover) finished with a best heave of 33.40m (109-07).

The Eagles will next see a trio of meets, sending athletes to the Jim Freeman/Clarke Wood Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville, in Louisville, Ky., April 23-25, the GVSU Extra Meet Weekend, hosted by Grand Valley State University, April 24-25, and the Hillsdale College Tune-Up, returning to Hillsdale College, April 24-25.
