Two School Records Broken in Track & Field’s Split-Squad Weekend

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Track & Field capped a memorable two-meet weekend with breakthrough performances at the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville, April 23-25, and the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet, hosted by Grand Valley State University, April 24-25. The Eagles shattered the women's 4x400m relay program record, saw sophomore Mariah Taylor leap to a new school mark in the triple jump, and collected numerous personal bests and nationally-ranked results across both meets.
How it Happened - Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational
The women's 4x400m relay delivered the meet's top highlight, as Uduak Udosoh (Abak, Nigeria/Ibiaku Clan Community Secondary), Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy), Demetria Henderson (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) and Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School) set a new program record with their 3:33.86 win—breaking a mark that stood since 1995 and ranking No. 28 in Division I this season.
Taylor (East Lake, Fla./East Lake) rewrote the EMU triple jump record with a leap of 12.92m (42-04.75), finishing third and surpassing the previous school best by a centimeter. Her performance ranks No. 32 nationally.
Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) added a runner-up 23.30 in the 200m, now No. 61 in the nation. Walkes also joined Ajah Arscott (Plantation, Fla./Taravella), Jordynn Young (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage), and Udosoh in the 4x100m relay, placing fourth in 45.36, landing spot No. 10 in program history, and No. 99 in the nation.
Alba Viñals Calixto (Arinsal, Andorra/Escola Andorrana de Segona Ensenyança d'Ordino) posted personal bests in the 400m (55.93) and 400m hurdles (59.98), breaking the one-minute barrier and moving into EMU's all-time top 10 No. 8 spot in the hurdles, after earning her spot in the top 10 at spot No. 10 earlier this season with a time of 1:00.23.
On the men's side Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) won the hammer throw with a personal-best 64.29m (210-11), climbing to No. 6 in school history and earning a No. 51 DI national rank. Ray Glory-Ejoyokah (Southfield, Mich./Wylie E. Groves) placed second in the discus at 51.15m (167-09).
The men's 4x400m relay of Olawole Olanrewaju (Akoko North-West, Nigeria/Wallas Universal Secondary School), Bamidele Ajayi (Eikiti State, Nigeria/Metropolitan International College), Tajay Roberts (Sunrise, Fla./Dillard) and Jamyle Anderson ran a season-best 3:08.79 for second place, ranking No. 57 nationally.
Mill Coleman III (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central) clocked a personal-best 53.83 in the 400-meter hurdles, and Andrew Azunque (Naples, Fla./First Baptist Academy) delivered top-10 finishes in both the long jump and triple jump.
How it Happened – GVSU Extra Weekend Meet
For the women, Erika Van Loton (Garden City, Mich./Huron Valley Lutheran) earned a personal best 2:16.96 in the women's 800m, and Cara Weber (Union, Ky./Larry A. Ryle) was sixth in the 10,000m.
The men's team saw Nicholas Kline (Grand Rapids, Mich./Kenowa Hills) set a personal best of 3:55.39 for fifth in the men's 1500m, while Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College) ran 14:37.68 for fourth in the 5000m.
