Blackwell netted her 36th hat trick while Grollman tied the single-game record with five assists

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Tracy Grollman dished a program-record-tying five assists and Mackenzie Blackwell netted her sixth hat trick of the season as the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team fell at home to the University of Cincinnati, 16-9, Sunday, March 8, on Scicluna Field in Ypsilanti. The Eagles (5-4) finished their non-conference schedule with a program-record five wins that included one victory over a 'Power 4' team while the Bearcats (7-3) won their third consecutive game.
How It Happened
Eastern opened the scoring two minutes into the game as Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) fed a pass to Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern), who scored to make it 1-0. The visitors, however, would go on an eight-goal run that saw the Bearcats build a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter before grabbing an 8-1 lead with 11:17 to play in the second. The Eagles halted the UC run with Blackwell scoring her second of the day, also off a pass from Grollman, with 5:10 to play in the half before the Bearcats answered one minute later to grab a 9-2 lead at intermission.
Following the halftime break, the Eagles fought their way back into the contest with two goals as Grollman set up both scores. First, Stella Burke (Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter's Catholic Secondary) dunked in a close-range shot at 14:21 in the third before Kendall Nagle (Sudlersville, Md./Queen Anne's County) shoveled a shot into the net to make it 9-4. The Bearcats responded with a pair of goals before Emerson Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) scored on a pass from Grollman with 1:44 remaining, sending the game into the fourth with the Eagles trailing, 11-5.
The visitors opened the final period of play with four consecutive goals before Eastern responded as Henry netted her second, this time on a pass from Erin Humphrey (Auburn Hills, Mich./Troy), who recorded her second career assist and second of the season with 5:49 to play. The Bearcats scored once more to make it 16-6 before Eastern closed out the game on a three-goal run that started with Emma Reichert (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) scoring off a pass from Kelsea Dague (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield). Blackwell tallied her third of the game at 2:20 to post her 36th career hat trick before Reichert made it back-to-back games with two goals as she scored from a free-position shot with 1:09 remaining.

» Tracy Grollman tallied five assists in the game to tie the Eastern single-game record that Sydney Lawrence set at Youngstown State, April 21, 2024. Grollman, who previously had recorded a career-high four assists in three games, also broke the facility record of four that she and teammate Avery Schwab set to join three visiting players on the chart. Grollman added to her program-record assist total, which is now at 52, making her the first player in program history to dish 50+ assists in a career.
» Mackenzie Blackwell scored a hat trick to mark her sixth game this season with at least three goals scored while bringing her career total to 36 hat tricks. Blackwell has scored 173 career goals and has accumulated 195 career points, leaving her five away from becoming the first Eastern player to reach 200 points. She added a career-high-tying three caused turnovers as well.
» Emma Reichert tallied two goals in the final 3:18 of the game to tie her career high and mark the second consecutive game she has scored two goals after netting a pair at Vanderbilt (March 4). Both her goals against the Bearcats game on the woman-up advantage, which tied her for third on the single-game chart for advantage goals scored.
» Emerson Henry scored a pair of goals to move into second on the team in goals and third in points (18). Her two goals extended her streak to four consecutive games with at least two goals as she scored two at Oregon (Feb. 22), five at Austin Peay (March 1), two at Vanderbilt (March 4) and two against the Bearcats.
» Erin Humphrey finished the game with four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and one assist, which tied her career-high after she assisted on a goal in the opener at Marquette (Feb. 6). Her two caused turnovers marked the sixth time in her career and fifth time this season she reached the number while her four ground balls doubled her previous career high.
» Maddy Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) posted four saves, eight ground balls, and five caused turnovers against Cincinnati. The five caused turnovers tied the single-game record at Eastern for the fourth time with the most recent addition coming April 20, 2025, as Annika Wozney (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) recorded five against visiting Akron.
» Karly Low (Owen Sound, Ontario/Owen Sound District Secondary) finished with three ground balls and two caused turnovers, marking the fourth time this season she has secured at least two of both in the same game. Her ground ball total marked the seventh time in 2026 she has recorded multiple scoops in a single contest while her two caused turnovers marked her fifth game with two or more.
