Tolstova secures lone point with her victory at No. 3 singles
AMHERST, Mass. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team dropped its first Mid-American Conference road match of the season as the Eagles fell at the University of Massachusetts, 6-1, March 15, inside the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center in Amherst, Mass. The Eagles (9-7, 0-2 MAC) saw Sabrina Tolstova secure a win at No. 3 singles for the team's lone point in the first meeting with the Minutewomen (10-3, 2-0 MAC), the newest member of the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass took a 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point with 6-1 wins at both No. 1 and No. 3. The team lead grew to 3-0 as the hosts secured wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. The Eagles got on the board at No. 3 as Tolstova (Odesa, Ukraine/Tennisquick Los Cristianos) battled through a tiebreaker in the first set before completing her two-set win, 7-6(2), 6-1. Despite the win, the visitors could pull no closer as the Minutewomen won the final three bouts to claim the 6-1 team win.
NOTING THE TEAM
» With the loss, the Eagles fell to 9-7 overall and 0-2 in MAC play while the Minutewomen improved to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the MAC.
» The match marked the first meeting in the series.

Two more MAC matches await Eastern next week as they are set to face Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo. The Eagles and Falcons will meet in Perrysburg, Ohio, Friday, March 20, in a 1 p.m. conference match before the Eagles and Rockets meet at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 22.
