Track & Field Seeks Conference Titles at MAC Indoor Championships

The meet will start at 10 a.m., Friday-Saturday, Feb. 27-28

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs will travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich., to compete in the 2026 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Central Michigan University, at the Jack Skoog Track, Friday-Saturday, Feb. 27-28.

Last Time at Indoor MACs
Both the men and women finished third at the MAC Indoor Championships last season, with the men scoring 120 points and the women scoring 77. The University of Akron won the men's side with 164 points, while Bowling Green State University won the women's side with 95 points.

The Eastern men were highlighted by individual champions Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) winning the mile in 4:11.90, Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) claiming gold in the 800m in 1:52.40, and Formula Thompson taking first in the long jump with a leap of 7.44m (24-05.00). In addition to the three first team winners, nine athletes from the men's team earned second team honors.

On the women's side, Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy), who led the women's squad with 18 points, repeated as the indoor 200m champion in a meet record 23.74, and placed second in the 60m dash in 7.39, was the lone first team honoree. Three women earned second team accolades, including Marta Moreno in the 5,000m run, Chloie Musta in the 800m, and Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School/Tayelolu Memorial) in the 400m.

Last Time Out: Silverston Invitational
Eastern last had athletes compete at the Silverston Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan, Feb. 20. The group was highlighted by Natalie Buratczuk (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles North), who won the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.65m (5-05.00). She was followed by Shamoya Clemetson (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), who earned second with a clearance of 1.60m (5-03.00).

The best event on the men's side was the weight throw, as DeMarrio Roetherford (Detroit, Mich./Wyandotte/Madonna) earned second with a toss of 18.88m (61-11.50), followed by Ray Glory-Ejoyokah (Southfield, Mich./Wylie E. Groves), who finished third with a 17.89m (58-08.50) mark.

EMU All-Time at MAC Indoors
The most decorated MAC track & field program, the Eastern men have 18 MAC Indoor Championships, the most of any team in the conference, including winning the first nine from 1996-2004. The program recently won three consecutively from 2021-23. The women also hold the most MAC indoor crowns in the conference with eight. Most recently, the women won in 2023 and 2024. 

Heading into MACs: Leading Marks
Going into this year's MAC Championships, the Eagles currently lead the conference in four events on the men's side. Wiles leads in both the 800m and mile, with times of 1:48.85, and 3:59.78, respectively. Jimmy Geller (London, England/Davenant Foundation School) holds the second fastest mile behind Wiles with a time of 4:03.19. Kayenn Mabin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) leads in the 60m hurdles, with a time of 7.76, and Gabe Oliveira (São Paulo, Brazil/ Escola Estadual Jornalista David Nasser) leads the triple jump, with a 15.37m (50-05.25) mark.

A Look Back: 2024-25 MAC Honors
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy), was named Most Valuable Performer in the outdoor season after scoring 38 points at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 15-17. She became the 13th most valuable performer in program history and the first since Alsu Bogdanova in 2018.

The women's leaders include Walkes, seniors Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) and Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich./L'anse Creuse), and junior Megan Rybitski (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne). The men's leaders include senior Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College), juniors Jeffery and Leland Godfrey (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral), and sophomore Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical).

Up Next
The indoor season will conclude with the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Friday-Saturday, March 13-14, hosted by the University of Arkansas, at the Randal Tyson Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. A list of meet participants will be available Tuesday, March 3. Should no Eagles make the cut, the next time they will be in action would be in the outdoor season, as they are set to open the outdoor portion of the schedule with the Raleigh Relays, March 26-28, and the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, March 27-28.
