Eagles Take Second in Tough Field in California

Three Eagles placed in the top 10 individually to push Eastern toward the top
PALM DESERT, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – Three players finished in the top 10 individually with all five players finishing among the top 21 as the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team took second place at the Alice and John Wallace Invitational, Feb. 14-16, at Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The Eagles, ranked No. 33 nationally, finished behind No. 2 University of Southern California on the par-71, 6,108-yard course while besting No. 11 University of California Los Angeles (third) and Vanderbilt University (fifth) in the event hosted by the University of California Long Beach.
As a team, Eastern shot 9-over 861 (294-285-282) to not only finish second in the event to the second-ranked Trojans (17-under 835) but post the second-lowest 54-hole team score in program history, just two strokes off the top mark set earlier this year at the Leadership and Golf Invitational. The Eagles, who's final two rounds rank among the top six in program history, were nine strokes clear of the No. 11 Bruins (18-over 870) while the University of California was fourth (22-over 874) and the No. 10 Commodores fifth (24-over 876).
Individually, the Leovao Twins led the charge as both tied for fourth place at Even-par 213. Janae Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State), who is No. 100 in the rankings, shot rounds of 75-67-71 to post her third top four finish of the season after winning the first two tournaments of the season while Jasmine Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State), the No. 92 golfer in the nation, shot 72-73-68. The 213 tied for the ninth-lowest in program history while both women added to the top 10 single round score ledger with Janae's second-round 67 tying for the third-lowest in program history while Jasmine's final round 68 tied for eighth. Both players finished ahead of nine individuals ranked ahead of them in the Scoreboard/Clippd rankings, including No. 21 (World Amateur Golf Ranking No. 130) Jeonghyn Lee of UCLA (t-36th), No. 23 (WAGR No. 51) Elise Lee of UCLA (t-14th), No. 31 (WAGR No. 13) Jasmine Koo of USC (8th), No. 39 (WAGR No. 90) Ava Merrill of Vanderbilt (t-21st), No. 43 (WAGR No. 69) Elizabeth Rudisill of Vanderbilt (t-18th), No. 61 Angelina Tolentino of Vanderbilt (t-29th), No. 77 Maye Huang of UCLA (t-21st), No. 87 Meghan Royal of UCLA (t-74th), and No. 88 (WAGR No. 91) Tillie Claggett of Vanderbilt (t-14th).
Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia) earned her third top 10 finish of the season as she tied for 10th at 3-over 216 (72-71-73), a score that tied her for the 16th-lowest score in program history, her ninth career score in the top 20 in program history. Ranked No. 153 this week, de Bock also placed ahead of many of those same highly-ranked individuals with 11 ranked in the national top 150 finishing below her in the standings.
Rookies Ammy Raemmuang (Phitsanulok, Thailand/St. Nicholas School) and Matilde Zocchi (Turin, Italy/Liceo Vittoria) both tied for 21st as they shot 8-over 221 in the tournament. Raemmuang lowered her collegiate best by one stroke from the 222 she shot in Hawai'i in her collegiate debut. Zocchi also bettered her 54-hole collegiate best as she took five strokes off the 226 she shot at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic. The duo tied with two players ranked in the national top 80 while also placing ahead of five others in the top 150.

» Eastern finished ahead of two teams ranked higher in the latest Scoreboard/Clippd rankings, including No. 11 UCLA, who was third and nine strokes behind the Eagles, and No. 10 Vanderbilt, who was fifth and 13 strokes behind EMU.
» The Eagles tied for the lowest final round team score as Eastern and No. 2 USC both shot 2-under 282. California shot 1-under 283 to join EMU and USC as the only schools to break par in the final round.
» The 861 strokes for Eastern rank as the second-lowest team score in program history and only the third time EMU has shot 870 or lower. The record was shot earlier this year when EMU posted a score of 859 at the Leadership & Golf Invitational (Sept. 15-16, 2025) and joins the 867 carded at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 20-22, 2025) as the only three scores under 870.
» Two of the Eagles' round scores ranked among the top 10 in program history, led by the third-round 282, which tied for the second position on the chart. The 285 shot in the second round ranked tied for sixth.
» As team, the Eagles ranked second in pars (187), tied for third in birdies (33), and were second for holes over par with 50. Their 48 bogies were second-fewest in the field while their two doubles+ tied with USC for the fewest.

» All five Eagles in the field finished ahead of at least five players ranked higher in the national rankings. Janae Leovao and Jasmine Leovao, ranked No. 100 and No. 92, respectively, finished ahead of nine individuals in the top 100 while Savannah de Bock, who is No. 152 this week, topped 11 players ranked ahead of her. Ammy Raemmuang and Matilde Zocchi, both of whom tied for 21st, tied with two players in the top 100 and beat out five players in the top 150.
» Janae Leovao shot even-par 213 to tie for the ninth-lowest score in program history and improve by two strokes over the 2-over 215 she shot last year in the event for Long Beach State when she tied for 14th. After shooting 67 in the second round, which tied for the third-lowest single round in EMU history, she now has carded 17 career rounds in the 60s, including three this season.
» Jasmine Leovao, like her sister, also shot even-par 213 to tie for the ninth-lowest score in program history. Leovao carded a third-round 68 to posted her 18th career round in the 60s and her fourth this season.
» Savannah de Bock tied for 10th place at 3-over 216, which tied for the 16th-lowest score in program history. Her top 10 showing is her third in five events this season and the 10th of her career.
» Ammy Raemmuang, playing in only her second collegiate event, posted her best collegiate finish as she shot 8-over 221 to tie for 21st. She finished one stroke better than the 222 shot in Hawai'i and improved by 17 places after tying for 38th on the islands.
» Matilde Zocchi posted her best 54-hole score as a collegiate player, surpassing the 226 she carded at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic (Sept. 22-24). Her tie for 21st place marked her second-best finish after she tied for 20th at The Southern to open the season (Sept. 8-9).
