Patterson and Lawson II Shine in Loss to Western Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Addison Patterson and Gregory Lawson II each produced standout showings to lead the Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team, but the Eagles suffered a 76-62 loss to Western Michigan University Saturday, Feb. 14, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Mid-American Conference action as WMU outscored EMU, 48-29, in the second half.
Patterson (Mississauga, Ontario/Bella Vista College Prep/Northwestern State) tallied 22 points while Lawson II (Saginaw, Mich./Oak Cliff Academy) had 18 as Eastern outshot its opponent for the fifth straight game and lost, holding a .407-.393 shooting percentage advantage against the Broncos.
Eastern led by as many as 14 in the first half but a dominant second half by the visitors gave WMU the win.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 3-2 advantage, Eastern Michigan went on an 8-0 run, culminating in a three from Lawson II, to increase its lead to 11-2.
The Eagles took their largest lead of the game at 19-5 with 11:44 left in the first half.
Western responded with a 7-0 spurt before it later went on a 13-0 run, giving them their first lead of the contest before EMU's 9-3 surge gave Eastern a 33-28 halftime lead.
The teams traded buckets in the first four minutes of the second half before WMU outscored EMU, 40-20, the rest of the way, highlighted by a 20-9 run to close the game and win, 76-62.
Game Notes
» Eastern moves to 9-17 overall and 3-10 in the MAC while Western Michigan moves to 8-17 overall and 3-9 in conference action.
» Eastern was 24-of-59 (40.7%) from the field and 9-of-21 (42.9%) from the three-point line, while Western was 24-of-61 (39.3%) from the floor and 9-of-16 (56.3%) from three-point range.
» Eastern shot better than Western (40.7%-39.3%). The Eagles' record fell to 9-5 when outshooting opponents this season, with all five losses coming in the last five games. Eastern has not lost five in a row while outshooting its opponent since at least the 2003-04 season.
