Track & Field Preps for Two-Meet Weekend

The multi athletes will compete at the SVSU Jet’s Pizza Invitational and the distance runners will attend the Meyo Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs will attend the Saginaw Valley State University Jet's Pizza Invitational, at the SVSU Field House in University Center, Mich., and the Meyo Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, at the Loftus Sports Center in South Bend, Ind., Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31.

Eastern multi athletes Shamoya Clemetson (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), Julien Badoo (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley), and Cason Doolittle (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton) will attend the Jet's Pizza Invitational, with competition beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. Saturday. The distance runners will compete at the Meyo Invitational, with events starting at 4 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. Saturday.

Last Time at Jet's Pizza Invitational and Meyo Invitational Results
Last season's Jet's Pizza Invitational saw Clemetson earn her first collegiate win in the pentathlon with 3,379 points, along with two first-place finishes (60m hurdles and high jump). Doolittle set a program record in the heptathlon 1,000m, finishing first in 2:44.01.

The Meyo Invitational saw Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) earn second place in the mile with a MAC leading time of 4:03.26, while Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) earned the conference's second-fastest 800m at that point in the season with a time of 1:52.66. Marta Moreno led the women with a 9:18.92 3,000m, along with the 4,000m distance medley relay team of Chloie Musta, Mia Biehl (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing), Sophie Emin (Easton Pa./Easton Area/Rutgers), and Cora Henderson (Courtice, Ontario/Courtice Secondary), who ran the race in 11:52.52.

Last Time Out: Bob Parks Memorial Jan. 24
The Eagles were highlighted by two program top 10 performances and 13 combined event wins at the Bob Parks Memorial Saturday, Jan. 24. Faith Moore (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington) won the weight throw with a personal best mark of 17.58m (57-08.25), improving from spot No. 8 to spot No. 5 in the program top 10. Mariah Taylor (East Lake, Fla./East Lake) improved her program top 10 mark in the triple jump from spot No. 9 to spot No. 7 with a personal best jump of 12.49m (40-11.75m), taking first place.

The women earned an additional four event wins, as Shamoya Clemetson (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) earned her event win in the long jump with a 5.71m leap. Jordynn Young (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) won the 200m with a time of 25.29, while Alba Viñals Calixto (Arinsal, Andorra/Escola Andorrana de Segona Ensenyança d'Ordino) won the 400m in 56.83. Emin a personal best in the 800m to take first place in 2:12.81. The Eagles also swept both weight throw and 400m events.

The Eastern men earned seven event wins, two of which came from Bamidele Ajayi (Eikiti State, Nigeria/Metropolitan International College), who won the 60m finals with a personal best time of 6.82, along with winning the 200m in 21.96. Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical/Michigan State) ran a personal best time of 8.00 to win the 60m hurdles. The mile saw Eagles sweep the top three spots, with Jimmy Geller (London, England/Davenant Foundation School) taking first place with a personal best time of 4:10.18.

Tanner Schick (Mount Dora, Fla./Mount Dora Christian Academy) won the high jump with a 1.95m (6-04.75) mark. Sam Vesperman (Gross Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile) won the pole vault with a 4.45m (14-07.25) clearance. Lucky Fiaku (Nimo, Nigeria/Busy International Secondary) won the triple jump with a 13.91m mark for the Eagles' seventh event win.

A Look Back: 2024-25 MAC Honors
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy), was named Most Valuable Performer in the outdoor season after scoring 38 points at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 15-17. She became the 13th most valuable performer in program history and the first since Alsu Bogdanova in 2018.
