Track & Field Returns to Ann Arbor for Simmons-Harvey Invitational

The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs will return to Ann Arbor, Mich. to compete in the Simmons-Harvey Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan, at the U-M Indoor Track Building Saturday, Jan. 17.
The Simmons-Harvey Invitational will mark the second of five total meets this season the Eagles will attend at Michigan, as they competed in the Wolverine Invitational last weekend, and this weekend will be followed by the Michigan Invitational, Feb. 7, the Silverston Invitational, Feb. 20, and the Len Paddock Open, May 8.
The meet will begin with field events at 10 a.m., and running events begin at 11 a.m.

Last Time at Simmons-Harvey Invitational
The Eagles last competed in the Simmons-Harvey Invitational in the 2016-17 season. The men's team earned three event wins, with Leighton Antonio winning the 60m dash finals in 6.92, current assistant coach Cameron Hart won the long jump with a 7.07m (23-02.50) mark, and Micah Peters took first place in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 14.55m (47-09.00). The Eastern women saw four event wins. Jasmine Jones finished first in the 200m with a time of 24.50, Sydney Meyers ran a personal best 9:48.44 to win the 3,000m, Allyson Goff won the 60m hurdles in a personal best and EMU No. 10 time of 8.50, and Dace Dremaine won the triple jump with a 12.12m (39-09.25) mark.
McEachern: MAC Men's Scholar Athlete of the Week
Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) earned the MAC Men's Scholar Athlete of the Week after winning the weight throw at the Wolverine Invitational, a meet hosted by the University of Michigan, Jan. 10, with an 18.85m (61-10.25) toss, a mark that currently leads the MAC. This award is the first of McEachern's career and first from an Eastern track and field student-athlete since Alsu Bogdanova earned the honor Dec. 6, 2017. The last time a member of the men's team earned the honor was March 1, 2017, when the award was given to Willy Fink.
Last Time Out: At Wolverine Invitational, Jan. 10
The Eagles competed for the first time in 2026 at the Wolverine Invitational, Jan. 10. The men were highlighted by three event wins and a program top 10 time. Kayenn Mabin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) won the 60m hurdles final with a time of 7.89, winning the event in consecutive meets after taking first place at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open, Dec. 5. Tanner Schick (Mount Dora, Fla./Mount Dora Christian Academy), earned his first collegiate event win in the high jump with a mark of 2.03m (6-08.00), a mark that is now ranked 68th in Division I standings. Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) took first place in the weight throw with an 18.85m (61-10.25) toss, currently leading the MAC. Bamidele Ajayi (Eikiti State, Nigeria/Metropolitan International College), set a personal best in the 300m with a second-place finish and a time of 34.14, which is now the eight fastest time in EMU program history.
On the women's side, Mariah Taylor (East Lake, Fla./East Lake) won the triple jump with a 12.10m (39-08.50) mark, which now stands as the 56th top mark in the NCAA, along with holding spot No. 49 in Division I standings. The Eagles additionally saw three top-five finishes, with Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich./L'anse Creuse) earning fourth place in the high jump with a 1.68m (5-06.00) mark, Megan Rybitski (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne) took fourth place in the pole vault with a season best 3.70m (12-01.50) jump, and Demetria Henderson (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) ran the 600m in 1:33.91 to take fourth place.

Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy), was named Most Valuable Performer in the outdoor season after scoring 38 points at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 15-17. She became the 13th most valuable performer in program history and the first since Alsu Bogdanova in 2018.
