Track and Field Earns Three Program Top 10 Marks at Simmons-Harvey Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs saw three program top 10 performances at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan in the U-M Indoor Track Building Saturday, Jan. 17. Nicolette Lewis and Aleah Johnson improved their top 10 marks in the weight throw, while Mariah Taylor earned a spot in the triple jump top 10.

The Eagles saw a combined total of 10 personal bests.

How it Happened – Women
The women were highlighted by multiple program top 10 marks. Lewis (Fairburn, Ga./Hoover) improved her weight throw from spot No. 8 to spot No. 5 in program history with a personal best toss of 17.52m (57-05.75), while Johnson (Botkins, Ohio/Botkins) improved her weight throw from No. 7 to No. 6 in the Eastern top 10 with a personal best mark of 17.38m (57-00.25). Lewis earned third place while Johnson earned fourth, and rounding out the weight throw was Lena Korte (Clinton, Mich./Clinton), who also set a personal best with a 16.16m (53-00.25) toss.
 
Taylor (East Lake, Fla./East Lake) set a personal best in the triple jump with a 12.37m (40-07.00) mark, earning spot No. 9 in the program top 10, sharing the spot with Allia Hanson, who set the same mark in 1997. Taylor's second-place triple jump is also now the 52nd-best in Division I and the 55th-best in the NCAA standings.
 
Multiple Eagles earned top-three finishes, including Jordynn Young (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage), who ran a personal best 7.60 in the 60m finals for second place, along with running a time of 24.65 in the 200m for another second-place finish. Nikol Antoniadi (Didimoticho, Greece/Geniko Lykeio Didimotichou) took third place in the 60m hurdles finals in 8.86.
 
In the jump events, Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich./L'anse Creuse) took third in the high jump with a 1.67m (5-05.75) mark, while Ashtan Winfrey (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Africentric Early College) also earned a third-place finish in the long jump, with a 5.69m (18-08.00) leap.
 
The 4x400m relay team of Alba Viñals Calixto (Arinsal, Andorra/Escola Andorrana de Segona Ensenyança d'Ordino), Josephine Oloye (Iawro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School), Liusmar Rivas Velasquez (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), and Demetria Henderson (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) earned a second-place finish with a time of 3:45.34, which now ranks 34th in Division I and 35th in the NCAA.
 
How it Happened – Men
The Eastern men saw four top-three finishes. Bamidele Ajayi (Eikiti State, Nigeria/Metropolitan International College) earned a second-place finish in the 400m with a time of 48.43, now 91st in the NCAA standings.
 
Jamyle Anderson earned third in the 60m finals with a time of 6.96, while Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) took third place in the 60m hurdles finals, running it in 8.07.
 
In the throwing events, Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) earned third in the weight throw with an 18.32m (60-01.25) toss.
 
Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) ran a 4:02.89 mile, a time that now ranks 30th in Division I, and 32nd in the NCAA.
