McDonald-O’Brien Named Golf All-America Scholar by GCAA

Rising senior was one of 548 student-athletes honored for the 2024-25 academic year
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Rory McDonald-O'Brien, a rising senior on the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team, has been named a 2024-25 NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar, the Golf Coaches Association of American announced today, July 29.
The GCAA recognized 548 NCAA Division I athletes from 188 schools nationally for the 2024-25 academic year. To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
McDonald-O'Brien (Shrewsbury, England/Shrewsbury School/South Carolina Aiken) was solid throughout his first season with the Eagles as he was the runner-up at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Championships with score of 211 (69-65-77), posting the top 54-hole score at a MAC tournament in program history by five strokes while second-round 65 ranked as the lowest round in MAC play by an EMU player. He finished the season with a 73.3 stroke average, the 21st-best in program history, as he competed in 10 events for Eastern with a pair of top 10 finishes in his final three tournaments as he added a tie for eighth place (214) at The Stitch Intercollegiate two weeks before his second-place showing in the MAC event.
McDonald-O'Brien and the Eagles are nearing the start of the 2025-26 season, which gets underway in September. A full schedule for the fall and spring tournament slate will be posted on EMUEagles.com in August.
