MARICOPA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – Angelica Holman went wire-to-wire to win the individual title at the Women's National Golf Invitational, May 9-11, at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course in Maricopa, Ariz., to lead the Eastern Michigan University team to a runner-up finish in the 10-team event. Holman, the leader after each of the three rounds, helped the team to second place, just four strokes behind champion Santa Clara University.
The Eagles finished the tournament at 26-over 890 (291-307-292) with the No. 94 Broncos taking first at 22-over 886 (293-295-298). No. 71 University of North Texas was third at 33-over 890 (296-307-294), University of North Carolina Greensboro was fourth at 36-over 900 (300-310-290), and Oral Roberts University was fifth at 38-over 902 (294-307-295). Defending champion No. 100 Rutgers University was seventh at 42-over 906 (299-310-297). Eastern, who tied for its best finish of the year after tying for second at the UNCW River Landing Classic (March 3-4), added several scores to its record book as the 890 strokes ranked as the 11th-best in program history while its scores of 291 in round one and 292 in round three ranked tied for 11th and tied for 15th, respectively.
Holman (Fort Pierce, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy/Daytona State/Georgia) led the entire tournament as she shot 69 in the opening round before closing with rounds of 74 and 73 to finish even-par 216, one stroke ahead of Mercer University's Katie Scheck, who was 1-over 217. The tied for 10th-best score in program history and the 38th time an Eagle has shot 220 or better, the 216 strokes tied her career high after she shot 216 with Daytona State University at the Mercer Invitational, Oct. 30-31, 2023. It surpassed her previous low score of 223 with the Eagles that she shot at the UNCW River Landing Classic (March 3-4, 2025). Additionally, her opening-round 69 tied for the 13th-lowest in program history while marking the 24th round in program history an Eagle has shot 69 or lower.
Holman has now won twice as a collegiate player with the WNGI win marking her first victory as an NCAA Division I player. Her previous victory came nearly one year ago when she captured medalist honors at the NJCAA National Championships (May 20-23, 2024) with Daytona State. The 25th individual title won in EMU history, Holman is the 16th different Eagle to claim medalist honors. Along with Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia) winning the Golfweek Red Sky Classic (Sept. 23-25) earlier this season, the Eagles claimed two individual titles in the same season since 2012 when Alyssa Kwon won the Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 22-23, 2012) and Sarah Johnson captured the Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 30-31, 2012).
The second Eagle to place in the top 10 was Erina Tan (Belmont, Western Australia/Mount Lawley Senior), who tied for fifth place at 3-over 219 (71-79-69) with Audrey Brust of Santa Clara. Tan, who recorded her collegiate career-best score, tied for the 27th-best score in program history and recorded the 39th score of 220 or lower at EMU. She reached the score by shooting a career-best 69 in the final round to tie for the 13th-best single-round score at EMU while also carding her first sub-70 single-round score at EMU.
Three other Eagles competed in the tournament, including Mariana Vega (Barranquilla, Columbia/Colegio Karl C. Parrish), Julianna Go (San Juan, Philippines/St. Jude Catholic School/King), and Riley Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge). Vega placed 32nd at 16-over 232 (78-74-80) while Go tied for 33rd at 17-over 233 (73-84-76) and Kim tied for 40th at 21-over 237 (83-80-74).

» The Eagles' second-place finish tied for their best of the season after tying for second at the UNCW River Landing Classic, March 3-4. It also marked back-to-back tournaments EMU placed in the top three after finishing third at the MAC Championships, April 20-22.
