Shved captures wins in singles and doubles for the Eagles

BUFFALO, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team fell on the road at the University at Buffalo, 5-2, Sunday, April 6, in Mid-American Conference play at the Miller Tennis Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Daniella Shved (Holon, Israel/Ort Holon) captured the lone singles point for the Eagles (9-11, 2-5 MAC) while also winning in doubles action as EMU fell to the Bulls (17-5, 4-3 MAC).
 
For the second time this weekend, the Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 start as they secured the doubles point. After UB won at No. 2, the Eagles would go on to win the remaining two matches to secure the point. Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland/Sopocka (Sopot) Tennis Academy/Wayne State) and Shved combined for a 6-4 win at No. 3 before Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czechia/Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India/Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) combined to win, 6-3, to clinch the point. It marked the second consecutive match the duo of Brichackova and Vichare secured the doubles point as the they teamed up for their 42nd career win together.
 
In singles play, the Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 as Shved made quick work of her No. 1 match, winning 6-0, 6-2. Shved finished the weekend with a 2-0 mark in singles after coming back from one set down at the University of Toledo (April 4) to win three sets in her return to the No. 1 spot. Despite the win by Shved, the Eagles were swept in the final five singles bouts as the Bulls took the team win, 5-2.
 
Match Notes
» Eastern fell to 9-11 overall and 2-5 in MAC play while the Bulls improved to 17-5 overall and 4-3 in league action.
» Daniella Shved captured the lone victory in singles play to finish the weekend 2-0 in singles and 4-0 overall when adding her two wins at No. 3 doubles with partner Marta Komar.
» With their win in doubles, both Sabina Brichackova and Prerna Vichare moved up the program's career doubles wins list. Brichackova has won 60 matches, tying her for 18th with Naomi Mokelke (1989-92), while Vichare has 58 to remain 20th overall and two wins from becoming the 20th EMU player with 60+ doubles wins in program history.
» The stretch of one-point decisions for the Eagles came to an end with the 5-2 decision at Buffalo. EMU had played its previous five matches to 4-3 scores, which tied the program record for consecutive one-point matches.
 
Up Next
The final home weekend of the season awaits the Eagles as they are set to play host to Northern Illinois University, April 11, and Bowling Green State University, April 13, with both matches scheduled for 1 p.m. starts at the Chippewa Club.
