Track & Field Combines for 21 Personal Bests, 17 Top-Three Finishes at Spartan Invite

13 women secured PRs while grabbing eight top-three finishes, 11 men earned a PR as they secured nine top-three outings

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field teams turned in a number of personal bests while in action at the nearby Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State, at Ralph Young Field Friday, April 4.
13 Eagles on the women's side turned in career highs in their respective events, with Lena Korte (Clinton, Mich./Clinton/Concordia) throwing a personal best 47.76m (156-08) in the hammer throw while Cara Weber (Union, Ky./Larry A. Ryle) placed first in the unseeded 1500m run with a personal best time of 4:56.63. Overall, the women earned eight top-three finishes.
On the men's side, 11 Eagles set new personal bests to go with nine top-three showings, with Aaron Schwieterman (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) taking first place in the 3000m steeplechase in 9:57.37.
Due to the weather, all jumps were held inside at Jenison Field House. All marks from vertical jumps (Pole Vault/High Jump) count as official marks, however, the horizontal jumps (Long Jump/Triple Jump) do not.
How it Happened – Women at Spartan Invitational
Freshman Shamoya Clemetson (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) set new bests in the 100m hurdles (14.33) and javelin throw (20.85m - 68.05), while Maleah Scott (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) also had a career best in the javelin throw with a 27.63m (90-07) showing.
All three Eagles who ran the 400m run finished with career-bests. Demetria Henderson (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) finished fifth with a 58.73, Chloie Musta (Mesick, Mich./Cadillac) ran eighth with a 59.16, and Delphine Drath (Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany Carl-Friedrich-Gauss-Schule Hemmingen) placed 11th in 1:01.77.
Both Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Easton Area/Rutgers) and Nikol Antoniadi (Didimoticho, Greece/Geniko Lykeio Didimotichou) ran personal bests in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:06.49 and 1:08.29, respectively. Anna Bathellier (Ile d'Yeu, France/College Les Sicardieres) placed ninth with a PR of 2:15.19 in the 800-meter run.
Liv Hatch (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), Frankie Moore (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) and Erika Van Loton (Garden City, Mich./Huron Valley Lutheran), turned in personal bests of 4:51.59, 4:52.05 and 5:06.99, respectively in the seeded 1500-meter run.
Korte's 47.76m (156-08) hammer throw marked a personal best and was good for third place.
How it Happened – Men at Spartan Invitational
McEachern's hammer throw of 60.70m 199.01 ranks third this season in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Joey Furlong's (Deer Park, Ill./Barrington) 14:51.98 finish in the 5000m run is second-best in the MAC this season.
Julien Badoo (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) set career marks in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.80 as well as the javelin throw with a 27.61m (90-07) mark. Matt McKnight (Miami, Fla./Miami Norland Senior) also had a PR in the 110m hurdles (15.25)
Freshman Nathan Gaspersic (Painesville, Ohio/Painesville Riverside) ran the 400m in a personal best 50.05.
McKnight and Leo Ignacio (Saline, Mich./Saline) both set personal bests in the 400-meter hurdles, turning in times of 57.26 and 58.14, respectively.
The Eagles fared well in the distance races, as Nicholas Kline (Grand Rapids, Mich./Kenowa Hills) ran a 4:02.79 and Donovan Johnson (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) finished in 4:05.10 in the seeded 1500m run. Along with Furlong's third place finish in the 5000m, Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and AJ Hawkins (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) had personal best times of 15:05.55 and 15:30.40, respectively.
In throws, Cason Doolittle (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton) threw a personal best 36.71m (120-05) in the discus, while Drew Knieper (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion/Hope) registered a PR in the hammer throw with a 48.13m (157-11).
