Eastern saw athletes compete at both the Raleigh Relays and the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla./RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs launched the 2026 outdoor season with a split-squad weekend at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational in Coral Gables, March 27-28, and the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina, March 26-28.

The Eagles were highlighted by a combined total of 22 personal bests and seven program top 10 marks at the two meets.

How It Happened – Hurricane Collegiate Invitational
The men's 4x400m relay team of Olawole Olanrewaju (Akoko North-West, Nigeria/Wallas Universal Secondary School), Bamidele Ajayi (Eikiti State, Nigeria/Metropolitan International College), Jamyle Anderson, and Tajay Roberts (Sunrise, Fla./Dillard) produced a standout performance, finishing second in 3:11.14 behind only powerhouse LSU. The trio of Ajayi (fifth, 46.95), Roberts (seventh, 47.58), and Olanrewaju (10th, 47.79) also placed three in the top 10 of the 400m dash.

Anderson made an impact in his outdoor debut, finishing seventh in both the 100m (10.71) and 200m (21.48), both being personal best times. In hurdles, Leo Ignacio (Saline, Mich./Saline) advanced from the 110-meter hurdles prelims with a personal best 14.62 before taking fifth in the final (14.70), while also clocking a personal best 21.84 for 13th in the 200m. 

In the throws, Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) led the Eagles with a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 63.19m (207-03.00), while Leland Godfrey (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) earned a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a personal-best 16.96m (55-07.75) mark, also earning spot No. 9 in the program ranks.

Both Ray Glory-Ejoyokah (Southfield, Mich./Wylie E. Groves) and DeMarrio Roetherford (Detroit, Mich./Wyandotte/Madonna) earned program top 10 marks in the discuss throw, as Glory-Ejoyokah takes spot No. 8 with a personal best toss of 50.46m (165-07.00), and Roetherford takes spot No. 10 with a 49.98m (164-00.00) mark.

On the women's side, Demetria Henderson (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) finished third in the 800m with a time of 2:16.87, while Alba Viñals Calixto (Arinsal, Andorra/Escola Andorrana de Segona Ensenyança d'Ordino) earned fifth place in the 400m hurdles in a personal-best and EMU No. 10 time of 1:00.23 to lead in the track events.

Mariah Taylor (East Lake, Fla./East Lake) continues her triple jump success into the outdoor season, as she earned spot No. 4 in EMU program history with a 12.65m (41-06.00) mark.

Savannah Breitwiser (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Central/Michigan State) led the throwers, as she earned a personal best in the shot put with a toss of 13.65m (44-09.50), and earned a sixth place finish in the discus throw with a 42.75m (140-03.00) mark. Her shot put now ranks as the fifth best in EMU history, and her discus ranks sixth in the program top 10.
 
How it Happened – Raleigh Relays
The men shined with three personal bests. Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) led the men's 1500m squad with a 3:41.79 for 12th overall. Jimmy Geller (London, England/Davenant Foundation School) set personal bests in both the 1500m (3:49.02) and 800m (1:50.51), with his 800m time earning 19th in a deep field. Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix) achieved a personal best in the 5000m at 14:27.45. 

For the women, Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Rutgers) ran a 2:10.40 in the women's 800m to set a new personal best, while Christiana Coleman (Pompano Beach, Fla./Florida) crossed the line in 4:36.98 in the 1500m and 2:14.45 in the 800m.

Eastern Michigan will continue its outdoor season Friday, April 3, at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich., along with the Golden Grizzlies Invitational, hosted by Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. Saturday, April 4.
