Track & Field Sees Throwers Shine at Spartan Invitational

The Eagles saw two NCAA ranks and three program top 10 marks

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs competed at the Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State University, Friday, April 3, at Ralph Young Field in East Lansing.
The Eagles were highlighted by two NCAA ranks by throwers Jake McEachern and Ray Glory-Ejoyokah, along with a combined five personal bests, eight top three finishes, and three program top 10 marks between the men and women.
How it Happened – Men
The throws group set the tone for the Eagles, led by McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive), who claimed victory in the hammer throw with a 63.25m (207-06) toss, a new season best and the No. 42 mark in the NCAA Division I outdoor rankings. Glory-Ejoyokah (Southfield, Mich./Wylie E. Groves) broke through with a 54.66m (179-04) discus throw for second place, a mark that ranks No. 49 in the nation and fourth in the EMU top 10. DeMarrio Roetherford (Detroit, Mich./Wyandotte/Madonna) added depth with a fourth-place finish in the discus and seventh in the hammer, with his hammer throw of 56.71m (186-00) earning spot No. 10 in the program rankings.
In the distance events, Carson Vanderschaaf (Marquette, Mich./Marquette Senior) delivered a personal-best 14:57.42 for second place in the 5,000m, breaking the 15-minute barrier for the first time. Isaac Garcia (Greely, Colo./South County) ran 15:19.31 to finish fifth, giving EMU two in the top five.
Also earning top-three finishes were Andrew Azunque (Naples, Fla./First Baptist Academy), who leapt 7.04 meters for second in the long jump, and Cason Doolittle (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton), who took third in the 110m hurdles (16.16).
The Eagles saw three men's personal bests on the day, highlighted by Julien Badoo (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley), who set new marks in the 400m hurdles (58.41) and long jump (6.27m, 20-07), in addition to Vanderschaaf's 5,000m.
How it Happened - Women
Shamoya Clemetson (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) captured the lone event title on the women's side, winning the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.92. She also placed fifth in the javelin throw with a toss of 27.28m (89-06) and eighth in the high jump.
The Eagles added two more top-three finishes. In the 100m dash, Nikol Antoniadi (Didimoticho, Greece/Geniko Lykeio Didimotichou) clocked a 12.97 to place third, while Natalie Buratczuk (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles North) secured a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.60m (5-03.00).
In the throwing events, Aleah Johnson (Botkins, Ohio/Botkins) recorded a personal-best mark in the hammer throw with a heave of 51.56m (169-02) for seventh place, also improving her program No. 8 mark from 51.48m (168-10). On the track, Erika Van Loton (Garden City, Mich./Huron Valley Lutheran) ran a personal-best 4:47.28 in the seeded section of the 1500m.
Top-five performances included Savannah Breitwiser (Commerce Township, Mich./Michigan State) placing fourth in the shot put and fifth in the discus, and Kaydence Doxley (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) taking fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump.
