Track & Field Readies for Two-Meet Weekend to Open Outdoor Slate

The Eagles will compete at the Raleigh Relays and the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs will open the 2026 outdoor season with a split-squad weekend, March 26-28. The Eagles will send student-athletes to the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University's Paul Derr Track Complex in Raleigh, N.C., March 26-28, while additional competitors will head to the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational at the University of Miami's Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla., March 27-28. 

The Raleigh Relays are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, 10 a.m. on Friday, and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, while the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Last Time at Raleigh Relays 
The Eagles last competed at the Raleigh Relays in the 2025 season, March 27-29. The women were highlighted by Marta Moreno's program No. 5 time of 16:12.80 in the 5,000m. On the men's side, Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) ran the 800m in 1:49.90 to lead the MAC at that time, and Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) finished the 1,500m with program No. 10 time of 3:43.43, which he later improved to the No. 4 spot with a time of 3:40.73.

Last Time at Hurricane Collegiate Invitational 
The last time Eastern competed at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational was in the 2022 season, March 26. The men were highlighted by Joe Duff, who won the javelin throw with a 58.75m (192-07.50) mark, while the Eagles saw multiple top three finishes. Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed took second place in the triple jump, Chuckwusom Enekwechi finished third in the shot put, and Tajay Roberts (Sunrise, Fla./Dillard) earned third in the 400m.

For the women, Chevonne Wheeler ran a second-place finish in the 800m, and the 4x400m relay team finished third. In the field, Kadian Clarke finished second in the hammer throw, while Nina Ward earned third in both the high jump and long jump.
 
Last Time Out: MAC Indoor Championships 
Eastern concluded its indoor campaign with several standout performances at the conference meet. For the men, Wiles swept the mile (4:07.31) and 800m (1:52.47), and Gabe Oliveira (São Paulo, Brazil/ Escola Estadual Jornalista David Nasser) took the MAC triple jump title at 15.30m (50-02.50). The distance medley relay team of Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College)Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical/Michigan State)Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney), and Jimmy Geller (London, England/Davenant Foundation School) captured the title in 10:04.50, while freshman pole vaulter Sam Vesperman (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile) earned Co-Indoor Men's Freshman Performer of the Year with a fifth-place finish. In the throws and jumps, Lukas Ray (Lincoln Park, Mich./Wyandotte Roosevelt) was runner-up in the shot put with a 16.42m (53-10.50) toss, and Lucky Fiaku (Nimo, Nigeria/Busy International Secondary) finished second in the high jump with a clearance of 2.08m (6-09.75). 

On the women's side, Mariah Taylor (East Lake, Fla./East Lake) captured the MAC title in the triple jump with a personal-best 12.69m (41-07.75) performance, the third-best indoor mark in program history. On the track, Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School/Tayelolu Memorial) earned a podium finish in the 400m (56.09), while the 4x400m relay team of Oloye, Alba Viñals Calixto (Arinsal, Andorra/Escola Andorrana de Segona Ensenyança d'Ordino)Uduak Udosoh (Abak, Nigeria/Ibiaku Clan Community Secondary), and Demetria Henderson (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) placed third in 3:45.72.

Both meets are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
