Track & Field Lands Six MAC-Best Marks Over Three-Meet Weekend

Eastern posted eight top-three finishes, 12 personal bests, and 19 outdoor season-bests

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track & field programs completed another multi-meet weekend as the Eagles earned six Mid-American Conference (MAC)-best marks at the Wake Forest Invitational, hosted by Wake Forest University, at Ketner Stadium, in Winston-Salem, N.C., Thursday-Friday, April 17-19, the Georgia Tech Invitational, hosted by the Georgia Institute of Technology, at the George C. Griffin Track, in Atlanta, Friday-Saturday, April 18-20, and the Elaine Leigh Invite, hosted by Oakland University, at the OU Track, in Rochester, Mich., Saturday, April 19.
The Eagles totaled eight top-three finishes, two of which were first-place showings as each program earned four top-three outings, 12 personal-best, led by the women with eight while the men grabbed four, and a total of 19 outdoor season-best, with the women securing 14 and the men posting five.
How it Happened – Women at Wake Forest Invitational
Chloie Musta (Mesick, Mich./Cadillac) ran a MAC-best 800m, finishing seventh out of 63 competitors in a personal best 2:08.50. Her time ranks seventh in program history and improved her top-10 standing by three spots from 10th to seventh.
Sofia Ivanko (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Matthew's College) made her outdoor season debut with a 35:13.83 10,000m run, a time that stands as the fourth-best in the MAC and a season best for the senior.
How it Happened – Women at Georgia Tech Invitational
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) placed second out of 85 student-athletes in the 100m dash in a season-best 11.61. Her time stands as the fastest in the MAC this season and 11th in the Great Lakes Region. Ajah Arscott (Plantation, Fla./Taravella) turned in a strong showing in the same race with a 12th-place finish in 11.92.
Walkes continued to lead a 4x400m squad of herself, Arscott, Mia Biehl (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing), and Demetria Henderson (Tampa, Fla./Freedom), to a third-place outing out of 27 teams in a MAC-best 3:39.06, a time that also ranks as the ninth-fastest in program laurels and is the first edit to the program top-10 list since 2018. Furthermore, the time ranks fourth in the Great Lakes Region and 38th on the East Qualifying List.
Kyra Buffen (Columbus, Ga./Buford/Benedict) paced the Eagles in the field events as she placed second out of 29 in the triple jump, leaping 12.42m (40-0). Mariia Yelanska (Dnipro, Ukraine) also had a strong performance in the event, placing ninth with an 11.81m (38-9) mark.
Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) finished fourth out of 31 foes in the high jump, tying a 2025 outdoor season best with a 1.71m (5-07.25) leap.
How it Happened – Women at Elaine Leigh Invite
Liv Hatch (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) placed first out of 14 competitors in the 3000m steeplechase in a personal-best 11:44.23. Her time was over 12 seconds faster than the second-place finisher (11:56.65).
Cora Henderson (Courtice, Ontario/Courtice Secondary) led a flock of Eagles in the 800m, placing fourth out of 46 runners in a season-best 2:15.63. She was followed by Laisette Rachal (seventh – 2:16.89), Kiera Hansen (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) (12th- 2:25.14), and Eva Orlich (San Jose, Costa Rica/IEM Bilingual) (17th- 2:28.41).
How it Happened – Men at Wake Forest Invitational
Lachlan Cornelius (Queensland, Australia/Anglican Church Secondary) placed third out of 73 in the 800m in a MAC-best and personal-best 1:49.25, a time that also ranks ninth in the Great Lakes Region.
Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Maclean's College) placed 24th in the 5000m open in an outdoor season-best 14:24.03. His time stands third in the MAC.
Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) led the Eagles in the 1500m, finishing ninth out of 68 in 3:44.10.
How it Happened – Men at Georgia Tech Invitational
For the second straight week, the 4x400m relay team of Olawole Olanrewaju (Akoko North-West, Nigeria/Wallas Universal Secondary School/Lenoir-Rhyne), Bamidele Ajayi (Eikiti State, Nigeria/Metropolitan International College/Lenoir-Rhyne), Tajay Roberts (Sunrise, Fla./Dillard), and Gabe Singh (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Northview/Oakland) ran a MAC-best time as they bettered their previous conference-best (3:08.39) by 1.04 seconds, placing first out of 29 teams in 3:07.35. Their time stands third in the Great Lakes Region and 32nd on the East Qualifying List.
Olanrewaju and Ajayi had strong showings in the 400m dash as well, each securing top-10 finishes out of 80-plus competitors. Olanrewaju placed eighth in 47.39 and Ajayi finished ninth in 47.43.
Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical/Michigan State) ran the conference's second-best time in the 400m hurdles, placing 16th out of 48 in a personal-best 53.15. His time ranks ninth in the Great Lakes Region. Eastern now owns the top-two 400m hurdle times in the MAC with Singh's MAC-best 50.67 at the 44 Farms Team Invitational last weekend, April 11-12.
Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) jumped a MAC-best 2.09m (6-10.25), placing third out of 28 student-athletes. His mark stands as an outdoor season-best, ranks fourth in the Great Lakes Region, and 33rd on the East Qualifying List.
Also with a quality outing in the field events, Formula Thompson (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica College) finished fourth out of 39 oppositions in the long jump, soaring 7.23m (23-08.75).
