CINCINNATI, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) --
The Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end as the Eagles fell on the road at the University of Cincinnati, 13-9, March 9, inside Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) tallied her sixth hat trick of the season to pace the Eagles (4-3) while Maddie Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) posted 11 saves against the Bearcats (5-4) for her fourth game with double-digit saves this year.

How It Happened
The hosts jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Eagles responded at 8:38 in the first as Emerson Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) scored on a dart from nearly 12 meters away on a restart as the possession clock expired. From there, the Bearcats added two more goals to take a 5-1 lead after one.

In the second, the hosts continued their run as they added two more goals for a 7-1 advantage. Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) halted the run as she ran in from behind the cage and slipped a shot in low to make it 7-2. But, the Bearcats would add two more to close the half and take a 9-2 lead into the break.

Out of the break, the Eagles came to life as they scored the first three goals to cut the lead to 9-5 before UC added one more for a 10-5 lead ahead of the fourth. In the quarter, Grollman, on an assist from Avery Schwab (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin-Scioto) scored her second, this time on the woman-up advantage, before the Aldermans scored back-to-back goals as Abby Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent), on a pass from Henry, scored at 7:21 before Amber Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) scored unassisted at 4:06.

In the final stanza, the Eagles refused to go quietly despite the Bearcats score twice to make it a 12-5 game. From there, the Eagles would score four of the final five goals to bring about the 13-9 final. As the visitors tried to claw their way back into the game, Blackwell, who had not registered a shot in the game, got things going as she scored a free-position goal on the advantage before scoring her second goal 36 seconds later. After UC's final goal, Blackwell finished her hat trick as Schwab grabbed her second assist with Katheryn Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) getting on the score sheet with her goal with 52 seconds remaining in the game.

Game Notes
» Mackenzie Blackwell scored three goals -- all in the fourth quarter -- to record her sixth hat trick in seven games this season and the 23rd time in her career. For her career, Blackwell has now scored multiple goals in 30-of-38 games played for the Eagles.
» Mackenzie Blackwell scored one of her three goals on a free-position shot, giving her five on the year and 20 for her career. The five free-po goals rank as the seventh-most in a single season in program history while her 20 career scores have tied Sydney Lawrence (2023-24) for the most in program history.
» Tracy Grollman continued her scoring ways as she scored twice in the game to bring her total to five this week (three at Butler, March 7). For the year, Grollman has scored nine goals, which is two more than she did in 13 games last year, while bringing her career total to 35.
» Avery Schwab dished two assists in the game, marking the third time this season she has recorded at least two helpers in a single game and the 10th time in her career.
» Annika Wozney (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) was strong on defense as she recorded a career-high five ground balls to go with two caused turnovers. The five ground balls better her previous best of three that she collected five different times, including at home against Canisius, March 1. Additionally, she has now recorded multiple caused turnovers in three games this year.
» Emerson Henry did a little bit of everything against Cincinnati as she finished with one goal, three ground balls, six draw controls, and one caused turnover. She has now scored at least one goal in four consecutive games while recording at least five draw controls in each of the last five games. Her third consecutive game with at least one caused turnover, Henry's three ground balls stand as a career high, surpassing the two she recorded in the opener with San Diego State.
» Maddie Porter was strong in goal once again as she finished with 11 saves. Those saves tie for the seventh-most in a single game in program history, equaling the 11 she recorded at No. 11 Notre Dame (Feb. 15) earlier this year. She has posted four of the top eight single-game saves total this season.
