Bloedow, Blackwell each scored four as four players tallied hat tricks for the Eagles
CLINTON, S.C. (EMUEagles.com) -- Payton Bloedow and Mackenzie Blackwell netted four goals each to lead a school-record 19-goal barrage as the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team defeated host Presbyterian College, 19-10, Tuesday, Feb. 26, inside Bailey Memorial Stadium in Clinton, S.C. The win is the first of the season for the Eagles (1-2) and the first for Maddie Dugan as the head coach of the Eagles as she saw 10 of her players record at least one point against the Blue Hose (0-3).
How It Happened
The first quarter saw the Eagles take a 2-0 lead as Kendall Nagle (Sudlersville, Md./Queen Anne's County) and Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) each scored for Eastern. The goal for Nagle came on a free-position shot while EMU was a woman-up to mark her first free-position goal with EMU while Blackwell, who was assisted by Avery Schwab (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin-Scioto), tallied her 96th career goal. Maddie Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) stopped all four shots she faced to keep a clean sheet in the first.
In the second, the hosts ran off four consecutive goals to take a 4-2 lead. With 4:32 remaining in the half, the Eagles went to work and scored six consecutive goals of their own with Blackwell scoring her second to start the run. Bloedow (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake/Stony Brook) followed with a woman-up score, her first goal with EMU and her first in nearly two years, before Kyleigh Dill (Dover, Del./Dover) scored on a free-position shot. The duo traded goals again, this time with Bloedow being assisted by Schwab before Dill scored unassisted. Bloedow added her third of the game with one second remaining in the second to stake the Eagles to an 8-4 lead.
Following a PC goal to open the third quarter, the Eagles picked up where they left off with Dill netting her third of the game for her first career hat trick. After two goals by the home side, EMU would close out the third quarter with another six-goal run to build a 15-7 lead after three. The run started with Katheryn Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) scoring three consecutive goals for her second hat trick of the season as she scored unassisted on her first, was helped on the second by Sydney Howard (Cumming, Ga./North Forsyth), who picked up her first career assist, and then finished the hat trick with her fourth free-position goal of the season. Caitlin Beahm (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Amber Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) added goals before Blackwell secured her third hat trick in as many games to close the quarter.
In the fourth, Beahm scored her second and made it seven in a row for the Eagles, a run that tied for the third-longest in program history. After two goals from the Blue Hose (16-8), both Bloedow and Howard scored on free-position goals before Blackwell netted her fourth of the game (one goal in each quarter) to cap the EMU scoring and post the most goals in a single game in program history. The hosts added a free-position goal with three seconds remaining to bring about the 19-10 final score.
